The Shadows of Nova Group

Marcus and Elena’s marriage was built on ambition rather than love. As the CEO of Nova Group, Marcus was an older, fiercely intelligent billionaire who viewed Elena not just as his wife, but as the crowning jewel of his corporate empire. However, their union was hollow, fractured by years of cold arguments and Marcus's hidden infertility—a secret he fiercely guarded to protect his pride. Enter Christian, the brilliant and dangerously charming newly appointed Chief Financial Officer. Tasked with working closely with Elena on a high-stakes merger, Christian provided the warmth, passion, and validation Elena had long starved for. Their professional boundaries dissolved into a passionate, secret affair. Six weeks ago, Elena discovered she was pregnant. Terrified of Marcus’s wrath, she tried to convince herself the baby could be a miracle, but deep down, she knew the truth.

Inside her private office, Christian corners Elena, intoxicating her with praise. She resists, panicking because Marcus is scheduled to arrive. But Christian, arrogant and deeply infatuated, brushes her fears aside, promising to leave after just one kiss. At the same moment, Marcus arrives at the reception desk, casually asking Annie if his wife is in. He walks down the corridor, opens the glass door, and steps inside—only to freeze. His eyes widen in absolute shock and silent fury as he witnesses his wife passionately kissing his CFO.

The silence in the office was suffocating. Christian was the first to pull away, his usual composure faltering for a split second before a cold, defiant smile crept onto his face. Elena gasped, her hands trembling as she smoothed down her cream blouse, her eyes darting between her husband’s icy stare and Christian’s calm demeanor.

"Marcus," Elena whispered, her voice cracking. "It’s not what it looks like."

"Isn't it?" Marcus replied, his voice terrifyingly calm. He closed the glass door behind him with a soft click that sounded like a gunshot in the quiet room. He walked over to his desk, took off his glasses, and wiped them slowly with a handkerchief. "You always did have a penchant for melodrama, Elena. But cheating with the CFO? That ruins the company's stock value. And we can't have that."

Christian stepped forward, placing himself subtly in front of Elena. "Let's not make a scene, Marcus. The board doesn't need to know about this. We can handle this maturely."

Marcus let out a low, humorless laugh. He looked Christian dead in the eye. "Maturely? You think you've won something here, Christian? You think you've taken my woman?" He turned his gaze back to Elena, his eyes dropping to her stomach. "I know about the pregnancy, Elena. Annie from reception isn't the only one who keeps track of your schedule. I saw the doctor's files on your tablet last week."

Elena’s heart stopped. "Marcus, please..."

"You see, Christian," Marcus continued, a sinister, triumphant gleam in his eyes as he walked closer to them. "Elena thinks she’s hiding a scandal. She thinks this child will destroy our marriage. But what she doesn't know—what you don't know—is that I have been waiting for this."

Christian frowned, his confidence wavering. "What are you talking about?"

"I am sterile," Marcus stated bluntly, watching the color drain completely from Elena's face. "I have been since I was a teenager. It's a medical fact. So when Elena became pregnant, I didn't need a detective to know she was sleeping with someone else. I just needed to know who."

Marcus reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, encrypted flash drive, tossing it carelessly onto the desk.

"Every single meeting, every stolen touch, every late-night rendezvous in this office has been recorded by the security feed I personally installed," Marcus whispered, leaning in close to Christian. "You didn't just steal my wife, Christian. You signed over your career. Under the morality clause of your contract, Nova Group now owns all your shares, your intellectual property, and your reputation is ruined. You're fired. Effective immediately."

Christian stared at the drive, the reality of his total ruin sinking in. He looked at Elena, but the romantic illusion was shattered. He was a corporate climber, and he had just been pushed off the cliff. Without a word, Christian turned on his heel and walked out, leaving Elena alone with her husband.

Elena collapsed into an armchair, tears finally spilling over. "Who... who is the father, Marcus? Please don't do this."

Marcus walked over, lifting her chin gently but firmly. "Christian is the biological father, of course. We both know that. But biology doesn't matter in a courtroom, Elena. Tomorrow, the world will find out that the CEO of Nova Group and his beautiful wife are expecting a miracle heir. You will stay by my side, you will play the happy wife, and this child will bear my name, inherit my empire, and be raised to despise the very ground Christian walks on."

He smiled down at her, a mask of perfect, terrifying control. "You wanted a family, Elena. Now you have one. But you belong to the company now. Completely."
