Chapter 7 - The Legal Slaughter

When my Maybach pulled up to the luxury apartment building, a crowd had already gathered. Two sheriff's cruisers were parked out front with their lights flashing. I stepped out, flanked by Rebecca and two massive bodyguards.

We took the private elevator up to the penthouse floor. As the doors opened, I could hear screaming echoing down the hallway. "You can't do this! I live here! My son owns this place!" Cynthia was shrieking at the top of her lungs.

I walked down the hall. The door to the apartment was wide open. Sheriff's deputies were carrying out boxes, throwing them unceremoniously into the hallway. Brenda was sitting on the floor, clutching her pregnant belly, sobbing hysterically in a cheap pink tracksuit. Elias was pinned against the wall by a deputy, screaming about his rights.

"He doesn't have any rights," I said clearly, stepping into the doorway. Everyone froze. Elias looked at me. His eyes were bloodshot, his hair a mess. He looked like a cornered rat. "Ella," he pleaded, dropping his aggressive tone immediately. "Tell them. Tell them it's a mistake."

Rebecca stepped forward, handing a thick stack of papers to Elias. "This is a formal eviction notice. This apartment is the property of Wilson Holdings. You have been squatting on corporate grounds. Furthermore," she added, handing him another envelope, "these are your divorce papers, along with a restraining order, and a notice of a civil lawsuit for fraud and embezzlement."

"Embezzlement?!" Cynthia gasped, clutching her pearls. "You used funds from the joint account—funds provided by my client—to pay off Brenda's credit card debt," Rebecca explained coldly. "That is theft."

"You set us up!" Brenda screamed from the floor, pointing a shaking finger at me. "You evil bitch! You knew you were rich and you trapped him!" "I trapped him?" I asked, stepping closer to Brenda. I looked down at her with nothing but pity. "I didn't invite you into my bed. I didn't tell him to cheat. I didn't write the script for your little heist. You all built your own gallows. I just pulled the lever."

Elias broke down. He fell to his knees in the hallway, trying to grab the hem of my pants. My bodyguard immediately stepped on his hand, keeping him away. Elias cried out in pain. "Mom, do something!" he sobbed to Cynthia. But Cynthia was silent. For the first time in her life, the arrogant, scheming woman realized she was completely powerless. She was staring at my diamond rings, realizing the empire she had tried to steal had just crushed her into dust.
