Chapter 6 - The Bait and The Trap

Fear flashed across Elena’s face, the old trauma resurfacing instantly. She rushed toward the girls, shielding them with her body.
“He’s coming for us,” she panicked. “Dante, we have to run—”
“No!” Dante’s voice thundered through the room, startling the girls.
He immediately softened his tone, walking over to cup Elena’s face. “Listen to me. You are not the scared pregnant girl in the alley anymore. You are Elena Russo. You are the queen of this city. And no one touches my family.”
He turned to Nico. “Who is the mole? Did Lorenzo’s leak reveal who betrayed us seven years ago?”
Nico nodded slowly. “It was Marco. Your uncle.”
The revelation hit Dante like a physical blow. Marco. The man who had taught him how to shoot. The man who had sat at his dinner table, drinking his wine, while knowing Elena was out there freezing in the slums.
Dante’s sorrow instantly transmuted into a cold, calculated rage.
“Lock down the estate,” Dante ordered. “Fifty men on the perimeter. No one goes in or out. Shoot any unrecognized vehicle on sight.”
“And you, Boss?” Nico asked.
“Call Marco,” Dante said smoothly, a chilling smile playing on his lips. “Tell him I’m going to meet Lorenzo tonight at the shipyard to negotiate a peace treaty. Tell him I’ll be traveling light. Just you and me.”
Elena grabbed his arm. “Dante, no! It’s a suicide mission.”
Dante kissed her forehead. “No, my love. It’s an extermination.”
He knelt down, kissing Mia, Bella, and Lily on their foreheads.
“I’ll be back before breakfast,” he promised the girls. “We’re having pancakes.”

Lily handed him her small, stuffed bunny. “For protection,” she whispered.
Dante tucked the pink bunny into the inner pocket of his lethal tactical vest. “I’ll guard it with my life, sweet girl.”
