Chapter 7 - THE STOLEN DOCUMENTS AND THE SMEAR CAMPAIGN

Two weeks after the confrontation at the botanical gardens, the fragile peace I had built was violently shattered.
It started on a rainy Thursday morning. I woke up to a flurry of frantic text messages from Chloe and my business manager.
“Clara! Open Twitter right now! Look at the trending hashtags!” “Oh my god, Clara, someone leaked your private medical records and court filings! You need to call Victoria immediately!”
My stomach dropped into a bottomless abyss. I rushed to my laptop, my hands shaking so violently I could barely type my password. When I pulled up X (formerly Twitter) and searched my handle, my breath caught in my throat.
A newly created, anonymous account—backed by a coordinated bot network—had published a vicious, targeted smear campaign against @TripletsAndTruth. The post featured scanned images of my confidential psychological evaluations from my postpartum recovery, heavily redacted and manipulated text message screenshots, and false accusations claiming I had fabricated the story of Eric’s abandonment to alienate him from his children for financial gain.
Worse still, the posts included my home address, tagging local paparazzi and internet trolls, urging them to "investigate the scammer mom."
Within hours, the hate comments flooded in. Death threats, vicious insults questioning my fitness as a mother, and accusations that I was exploiting my triplets for brand deals filled my comment sections. Brand partners, spooked by the sudden controversy, began emailing me pause notices on active contracts, threatening to pull out entirely.
All my hard work, my digital empire, my financial independence—threatened with absolute destruction in a single morning.
I called Victoria Vance immediately. Her voice was grave.
"Clara, this isn't just standard internet trolling. These documents—especially the medical evaluations—were sealed by the family court. Only two people had access to the complete unredacted case files: myself and Eric’s defense counsel," Victoria said grimly. "Eric’s lawyer denies any involvement, but Eric recently fired him and hired a notorious, aggressive litigator named Marcus Sterling—a man known for dirty tricks and scorched-earth tactics."
"Can we sue them? Can we trace who leaked it?" I asked, my voice trembling with suppressed rage.
"We are already filing an emergency injunction for cyber-harassment and violation of a court protective order," Victoria replied. "If we can prove Eric or his legal team leaked sealed documents, Sterling will face disbarment, and Eric could face criminal contempt charges with potential jail time. But in the meantime, Clara, you need to protect yourself and the babies. Move out of the townhouse temporarily. Go to a secure, unlisted location."
Before I could even pack a single bag, the doorbell rang.

It wasn't a process server or a delivery driver. When I peered through the peephole, my heart stopped. Standing on my porch was a local news crew with a camera rolling, flanked by two reporters shouting questions through the glass: "Ms. Vance! Is it true you faked your husband's abandonment? Are you using your triplets for financial fraud?"
Panic surged through my veins. For the first time since Eric walked out of the hospital, I felt entirely cornered.
