Chapter 8 - Confessions in the Rain

Dante pressed the barrel of his pistol against Marcus's temple while the enforcers secured the perimeter doors. "Sal took the fall, Marcus, but you pulled the strings," Dante said softly, the warmth entirely vanishing from his voice.
"I had to!" Marcus screamed, tears streaming down his face as he clutched his crushed hand. "The Chicago Outfit was backing me. They promised me the whole North Side if I bled your syndicates dry."
Emily knelt beside the screaming man, entirely unfazed by the blood pooling on the dirty floor. She picked up a stray ledger page and scanned the signatures at the bottom.
"The Chicago Outfit's signature is right here on page twelve," Emily noted calmly. "Signed by Vincent Moretti himself."
Dante stared down at the paper, the final piece of a puzzle clicking violently into place. Vincent Moretti was the ruthless head of the rival South Side family that had planted the car bomb nine years ago.
The realization that Clara's death wasn't just a random hit, but part of a long-term corporate takeover, sent a surge of pure fury through Dante's veins. He looked down at Marcus with cold, calculated lethal intent.
"Take him to the warehouse," Dante commanded Tommy without a hint of hesitation.

"Wait," Emily interrupted, holding up a hand. "Check his coat pocket first. There's a flash drive."
Tommy patted Marcus down, pulling out a small silver USB drive and handing it directly to Emily. She slipped it into her pocket with a satisfied nod. "Alright, now you can take him."
