Chapter 5 - Unraveling the Grand Conspiracy

The next morning, with Frederick stable and smiling weakly at a nurse's plush toy, I left Amy safely guarded by hospital security and drove straight to the best law firm in downtown Nashville. I wasn't just looking for a defense attorney; I was looking for a shark. I found one in a veteran litigator named Marcus Vance.

I slammed the forged deed and a printout of my bank statements onto Marcus's mahogany desk. I laid out the entire horrific story. Marcus didn’t blink; he just started taking furious notes.

By the end of the week, working alongside the District Attorney's fraud division, we had unraveled a conspiracy so sickening it sounded like the plot of a thriller movie.

Teresa wasn't acting alone. Mason was drowning in over $150,000 of gambling debt. He had convinced Teresa that if they could push Amy into a severe mental breakdown, they could institutionalize her. With Amy out of the picture, Teresa would step in as the full-time caregiver for Frederick.

But their ultimate prize was the house. Nashville real estate was booming. My home had appreciated significantly. Mason had used his notary credentials to completely forge my signature on a Quitclaim deed, transferring the house to Teresa. Their plan was to take out a massive cash-out refinance loan against my property the very next Monday, draining all my equity to pay off Mason's debts and fund Teresa's lavish lifestyle.

They thought I was too tired, too overworked, and too trusting to notice until it was far too late.

"They got sloppy, Connor," Marcus explained, leaning back in his leather chair, a predatory smile on his face. "Mason's notary stamp on this forgery is a federal offense. Your mother's extortion and grand larceny, combined with the physical endangerment of a minor... the DA is drooling over this. We aren't just going to sue them. We are going to bury them under the prison."

The police raided Teresa's apartment. Inside, they found a mountain of evidence. They found my missing $3,000 monthly transfers meticulously routed into offshore betting accounts and receipts for luxury jewelry. They even found a journal where Teresa had outlined her step-by-step plan to gaslight Amy, detailing exactly how she intended to strip my wife of her sanity.

It was premeditated, calculated evil, orchestrated by the woman who gave me life.

When the detective handed me a copy of that journal, any lingering shred of familial love I had for my mother evaporated instantly. She was no longer my mother. She was a parasite. And I was going to exterminate her grip on my life.
