Chapter 7 - The Courtroom Destruction

Three months later, the divorce and civil fraud hearings were consolidated into one explosive courtroom battle.
Julian had hired the most aggressive, expensive lawyer he could find on credit.
He was determined to fight for half the value of the trust, arguing that the assets were marital property despite his forgery.
I sat at the plaintiff's table beside Marcus, wearing a sharp white suit, feeling absolutely untouchable.
Julian sat across the aisle, looking exhausted.
He had lost weight. His skin was pale.
Without my financial backing and with the corporate embezzlement scandal looming over him, his life had rapidly unraveled.
His lawyer, a slick man named Vance, stood up to make his opening statement.
“Your Honor, my client is a victim of a vindictive spouse who maliciously hid marital assets in a secret trust to bankrupt him,” Vance argued smoothly.
The judge, an older, stern woman, looked at me over her glasses.
“Counselor, how do you respond?” she asked Marcus.
Marcus stood up, buttoning his jacket.
“Your Honor, we respond by proving that Mr. Julian Hayes was actively plotting to defraud my client and leave her destitute.”
Marcus walked to the center of the room.
“With the court's permission, we would like to submit Exhibit A into evidence. An audio-video recording taken legally in a public space.”
Julian’s lawyer objected immediately, but the judge overruled it.
Marcus connected his laptop to the courtroom monitors.
The screen flickered to life.
It was the shaky, zoomed-in footage from the Denver International Airport.
The entire courtroom watched as Julian kissed Chloe Hastings.
But the kiss wasn't the damning part.
The audio played, crystal clear over the speakers.
“Everything is ready. That idiot is about to lose everything.”
Julian’s face drained of all blood. He sank lower in his chair.
“Once the transfer is complete tomorrow morning, she’s finished. No money. No access. I’ll file for divorce immediately.”
“And the house?”
“That’s already taken care of. The deed is in my name now.”
The courtroom was dead silent.
The judge stared at the screen, her expression hardening into absolute disgust.
Vance, Julian’s expensive lawyer, slowly closed his notepad and pinched the bridge of his nose.
He knew instantly that the case was utterly unwinnable.
“Mr. Hayes,” the judge said, her voice dripping with contempt. “Did you or did you not forge your wife's signature on a Quitclaim deed?”
Julian opened his mouth, but no words came out.
He looked at Vance for help, but Vance wouldn't even make eye contact with him.
“I... I was just trying to protect our assets,” Julian whispered weakly.
The judge slammed her gavel down.
“Save it,” she snapped. “I have heard enough.”
The ruling was brutal and swift.
The judge upheld the validity of The Legacy Trust, leaving Julian with zero claim to my house or savings.
Furthermore, because of his blatant financial fraud, she awarded me full ownership of his shares in the company to recoup the funds he and Chloe had embezzled.
Julian was ordered to pay all my legal fees.
He was left with nothing but a mountain of debt, pending criminal charges for forgery, and a shattered reputation.
As the courtroom cleared out, Julian walked over to my table.
He looked at me with hollow, defeated eyes.
“You ruined me, Elena,” he rasped.
I packed my files into my briefcase, snapped it shut, and looked him dead in the eye.
May you like
“No, Julian,” I replied softly. “I just stood out of the way while you ruined yourself.”
I turned my back on him and walked out of the courtroom, leaving him standing alone in the ruins of his own making.
