Chapter 6 - The Inside Man

"I'm going back to Chicago," I said, standing up. "I'm going to rip his heart out of his chest."
"And leave your daughters without a father?" Claire slammed the laptop shut. "Don't be a fool."
"He killed Sarah!" I shouted, the rage finally breaking through my disciplined exterior.
"I know!" Claire matched my volume, standing up to face me. "And he killed my brother during the Reyes hit! We both want him dead."
We stared at each other, chest heaving, the shared grief suddenly linking us in the dimly lit cabin.
"If you walk in there blind, you die," Claire said, her voice dropping back to that calm, clinical tone. "He controls the city now. We have to bring him to us."
I ran a hand over my face, forcing the anger back down into a cold, hard knot.
"How?" I asked.
"We make him think you're vulnerable," she said. "He knows you survived. He'll be tearing the state apart looking for you."
"There's only one person who knows about this cabin," I said slowly. "My accountant, Vance. He pays the property taxes."
"Is Vance loyal?"
May you like
"He’s loyal to money," I grimaced. "If Marcus offers him enough, Vance will sell us out in a heartbeat."
"Then we call Vance," Claire said, handing me a burner phone. "Tell him you need cash. Tell him you're hurt. We bait the hook."
