Chapter 7 - The Desperation

Six months passed.
Diane was broke.
She had lost her apartment and had to move back in with her parents.
She was miserable, living on poultry and vegetables.
Every family meal was a source of tension.
If Mark's dad wanted a burger, Diane would have a screaming fit.
"Are you trying to kill me?!" she would yell.
The golden child had become a burden.
Her vibrant, arrogant personality had turned into toxic victimhood.
One night, desperation took over.
Diane got an offer from a massive sponsor.
A huge paycheck to do a live taste-test of a new wagyu beef brand.
It was enough money to get her out of debt.
She convinced herself that the allergy was "fading."
She convinced herself she could take a few Benadryl, eat the meat, spit it out, and be fine.
She was wrong.
She went live on Instagram.
Thousands of people were watching.
She held up the piece of wagyu.
"Back to my roots," she said, forcing a smile.
She chewed. She swallowed.
Ten minutes later, still on the live stream, it started.
She began violently scratching her neck.
Her face puffed up in real-time.
She collapsed on camera, gasping for air, knocking over the ring light.
The stream went dark amid her choking sounds.
Her mother had to use two EpiPens and call another ambulance.
The video went viral.
It wasn't a triumph; it was a tragedy broadcast to the world.
She became a meme.
The "Fake Carnivore."

Her career wasn't just dead now.
It was buried.
