Chapter 7 - The Rinaldi Reckoning

The sight of Massimo Rinaldi standing on his own two feet hit the room like a bomb.
Women screamed. Men scrambled backward.
Dean froze, his hand still inside his jacket, staring at Massimo as if looking at a ghost.
"You..." Dean stammered, his knees visibly shaking. "You can't walk."
"I'll wash your feet, and then you'll walk again," Massimo quoted softly, his eyes burning into Dean's soul. "A three-year-old child had more faith in me than my own brother."
Before Dean could draw his weapon, three of the oldest, most loyal Rinaldi capos drew theirs, aiming directly at Dean's head.
Dr. Hale tried to run for the side door, but two massive guards tackled him to the marble floor, pinning him down.
Camille fell to her knees, sobbing hysterically. "Massimo! Please! He forced me! Dean made me do it!"
Massimo ignored her. He slowly walked around the banquet table.
Every step was deliberate. Every step was a testament to his unbreakable will.
He stopped right in front of Dean.
"You took two bullets for me," Massimo said quietly.
"I staged the hit!" Dean finally cracked, screaming in terror. "I paid the Bellandis! I wore a Kevlar vest! I just wanted the throne, Massimo! I'm sorry!"
Massimo looked at the man he had called a brother for twelve years.
"You wanted the throne. But you forgot one thing, Dean."
Massimo reached out, straightening Dean's lapel with chilling calmness.
"A king doesn't die just because the jesters poison his cup."
Massimo turned his back and walked toward the head of the table.
He didn't need to give an order. In the mafia, treason had only one punishment.
"Take them to the basement," Massimo commanded the capos. "All three of them."
As Dean, Camille, and the doctor were dragged screaming from the ballroom, Massimo turned to his guests.
His posture was flawless. His dominance was fully restored.
"The gala is over," Massimo announced. "The Rinaldi family is undergoing a cleansing. Anyone who has a problem with my leadership can step forward now."
No one moved. The capos bowed their heads in absolute submission.
The true Don had returned from the dead.
Through the chaos, Massimo's eyes searched the room until he found the kitchen doors.
Carla was standing there, tears streaming down her face, clutching Nina.
Massimo walked through the crowd.
The dangerous, ruthless mafia boss knelt on the marble floor, right in front of the housekeeper and her toddler.

He took Nina's tiny hand and kissed it gently.
"You were right, little angel," he smiled, a genuine, warm smile. "My feet woke up."
