Chapter 8 - The Victim Card

By Tuesday, the narrative had flipped.

I woke up to hundreds of notifications on Instagram and Facebook.

Natalie had posted a twenty-minute crying video.

She wasn't wearing makeup. The lighting was dark. It was a masterpiece of manipulation.

"My sister, Eleanor, has always hated me," Natalie sobbed to the camera. "She sabotaged my wedding out of pure jealousy. She framed me with fake documents because she couldn't stand seeing me happy."

She didn't mention the audio recording. She didn't mention the seating chart.

She just spun a web of lies about how I had bullied her our whole lives.

The comments were brutal.

What a psycho sister. You should sue her, Nat! Who destroys a wedding like that? Eleanor is a monster.

My phone buzzed. It was an email from my boss at the software firm.

Eleanor, we need you to come down to HR. Some troubling videos have been sent to our corporate inbox.

My hands shook. They were trying to get me fired.

I quickly called Marcus.

"Did you see it?" I asked.

"I'm already drafting a cease and desist," Marcus said angrily. "But a letter won't fix public opinion."

"I don't care about public opinion," I said, my voice hardening. "I care about my job. Can you get me the hard proof of the casino transfers?"

"I have the official banking records. It's undeniable wire fraud."

"Send them to me," I ordered.

"What are you going to do?"

"I'm going to set a trap."
