Chapter 5 - The Architect of Lies

Nobody in the room spoke. Even the three senior Veridian partners, who had been loudly murmuring about wasting their time just moments before, stopped shifting in their chairs. On the massive screen, Nathaniel walked confidently to the main security gate and entered a code. A bright red 'Denied' flashed on the gate's digital reader.
He entered another code. Denied again. Then he pulled out his phone, dialed a number, and waited in the chilly night air, pacing slightly. After a brief conversation, he punched in a much longer, complex sequence of numbers. The heavy metal gate slid open.
I did not move a muscle. I did not look at him to gloat. I kept my hands elegantly folded in my lap while everyone else in the room watched my husband walk down the private dock with the exact woman he had just sworn, on his reputation, he had never taken there.
They reached the slip where The Halcyon was moored. Nathaniel tried the yacht’s biometric access panel and failed again. The system flashed red. He made another frantic call, waited a tense sixty seconds, and then entered a seven-digit emergency maintenance override.
With a low mechanical hum that the drone's microphone picked up, the yacht's heavy boarding platform lowered into place.
That was the first undeniable truth the room could not ignore. He had not been invited by the trust. He had not used normal marital access. He had essentially broken into my family's yacht using a high-level security code he was never, under any circumstances, supposed to possess.
Then Elias calmly pressed pause on the remote, freezing the image of Nathaniel helping Sloane onto the deck. He slid the leather-bound document across the table until it rested right in front of Nathaniel’s high-priced lawyer.
At the very top of the page, printed in bold, black ink, was the name: Graham Voss.
"Mr. Voss," Elias began, his voice cutting through the thick silence of the room, "is the Chief Security Officer at Veridian Holdings. A man who, according to these subpoenaed bank records, received a wire transfer of fifty thousand dollars from a shell company controlled by Nathaniel Pierce, exactly forty-eight hours before this video was recorded."

The senior Veridian partner, a silver-haired man named Richard, turned completely pale. "Graham Voss is our man. He handles the cybersecurity for our upcoming merger. Are you telling me..."
"I am telling you," Elias interrupted smoothly, "that Nathaniel Pierce bribed your Chief Security Officer to hack into the Ames Family Trust database to steal the emergency override codes for The Halcyon. He did this to illegally host you on a vessel he does not own, to project a false image of immense personal wealth, thereby fraudulently inducing Veridian into a multi-million dollar merger based on assets he has zero legal right to leverage."
