Chapter 6 - The Shell Company Unveiled

The next morning, Sarah and I sat in a private conference room at her law firm.
David, my cybersecurity chief, was on speakerphone.
"He sent the email from a public library in downtown Denver," David reported.
"Can you wipe his copies remotely?" I asked.
"He downloaded them to an offline flash drive," David explained.
"I can't delete them unless he connects that drive to the internet."
I cursed under my breath. Ryan actually had leverage.
"Let's focus on the money," Sarah interjected, sliding a new stack of papers toward me.
"I got the subpoenaed records for Evergreen Holdings."
I looked at the bank statements.
"Ryan is listed as the CEO. Grant is the primary beneficiary."
"Look at the third signature on the corporate charter," Sarah pointed out.
I squinted at the cursive scrawl.
Diane Pierce.
"My mother-in-law?" I asked, shocked.
"She's a signatory," Sarah confirmed.
"She authorized the transfer of the funds into Grant's personal accounts."
"Which makes her an accomplice to the wire fraud," I realized.
"Exactly. But Brooke isn't on any of these documents."
A plan began to form in my mind, sharp and ruthless.
Brooke was the weak link.
She was twenty-four, unemployed, and entirely dependent on her parents.
"Sarah," I said slowly. "Brooke and Diane have to leave the penthouse today, right?"
"Security is escorting them out at noon."
"I want to meet Brooke. Alone."
Sarah frowned. "That's risky. The whole family hates you right now."
"Brooke only cares about herself," I noted.
"If she realizes her parents are going to prison and she'll be penniless..."
"She'll turn on them to save herself," Sarah finished, a slow smile spreading across her face.
"Set it up," I instructed.
"And make sure Ryan and Grant don't know she's meeting me."
May you like
I was going to dismantle their family piece by piece.
And I would start with the youngest.
