Chapter 6 - The DNA Bombshell

"You b*tch!" Brooke screamed, completely losing her elegant facade.
She stomped down the stairs, leaving the child on the stage. "You planned this! You came back just to ruin us!"
"Ruin you?" I laughed, a sharp, bitter sound that cut through the noise of the room.
"Brooke, you ruined yourself. Dominic, did you really think I would walk away just because you found a 'true heir'?"
I snapped my fingers.
On the giant screen behind them, the financial documents disappeared. They were replaced by a massive, high-definition image of a medical document.
PATERNITY TEST RESULTS.
Dominic froze. Victoria, who had been clutching her pearls in horror at the financial ruin, suddenly looked up at the screen.
"What is this?" Dominic breathed.
"This," I said, walking slowly toward them, "is the result of a little digging. You see, when a man tosses his own flesh and blood aside for a shiny new toy, I tend to get curious about the toy."
I pointed to the screen.
"Probability of Paternity between Dominic Sterling and Liam... 0.0%."
The room, which had been buzzing with financial panic, suddenly dropped into absolute, stunned silence. You could hear a pin drop.
"No..." Victoria gasped, her legs giving out. She collapsed into a chair, staring at the screen. "My grandson... my golden boy..."
Dominic turned slowly, mechanically, toward Brooke.
Brooke’s face was completely drained of blood. She looked like a ghost. She was shaking violently, taking steps backward until she hit the edge of the stage.
"Dom... Dom, it's fake! She faked it!" Brooke cried, tears streaming down her face.
"Is it fake, Brooke?" I asked, pulling out a second document and displaying it on the screen.
It was a mugshot of a rugged, heavily tattooed man.
"Meet Marcus Thorne," I announced to the crowd. "Currently serving ten years in federal prison for wire fraud. Brooke’s ex-boyfriend. And, according to the secondary DNA test... the biological father."
"You lied to me?" Dominic roared, his voice cracking with a mixture of grief and utter humiliation.
He lunged at Brooke, grabbing her by the shoulders and shaking her. "You made me abandon my wife! You made me hate my own son for a bastard child?!"
"Get your hands off me!" Brooke shrieked, scratching at his face.
The glamorous couple was now fighting like alley cats in front of the entire elite society of the city. Camera flashes began to go off as guests pulled out their phones.
Victoria was sobbing hysterically. The 'defective' grandson she had tortured was her only true bloodline, and she had traded him for the spawn of a convict.
I stood there, watching the empire they built on my back crumble into dust.

But the smile faded from my lips.
Because money and pride were not enough to pay for what they did to Leo.
