Chapter 9 - The Final Confrontation At The Docks

Blood, Fire, And RedemptionThe abandoned shipping warehouse on the Brooklyn waterfront echoed with the sound of gunfire and shattering glass.

Dominic Moretti walked through the heavy steel doors alone, his obsidian gaze fixed on Vince, who stood flanked by six Valenti thugs holding automatic weapons. Marco Valenti, a greasy, middle-aged syndicate boss with bloodshot eyes, held a pistol pointed directly at Vince's head—or rather, used Vince as a human shield.

"Drop your weapon, Moretti!" Marco shrieked, spattering saliva. "You thought you could wipe us out? We take you down, and the city is ours!"

Vince looked terrified, bleeding from a gash across his temple where Dante had caught him earlier. "Dominic! Help me! They forced me—"

"Shut up, Vince," Dominic said coldly, his voice echoing off the concrete walls. He didn't even draw a gun. He walked forward with steady, measured steps.

"Stay back, or I swear to God I'll blow his brains out!" Marco screamed, cocking the pistol.

Dominic stopped ten feet away. A faint, humorless smile touched his lips. "Vince was never my second-in-command because he was smart, Marco. He was my second-in-command because I needed a canary in the coal mine."

Vince stopped shaking. He slowly lowered his hands, wiping the blood from his temple. The terrified expression vanished from his face, replaced by a cold, calculating smirk.

Marco blinked, looking down at Vince in horror. "What... what are you doing?"

"Cleaning house, Marco," Vince said smoothly, stepping out from under Marco's gun barrel.

Dante and twenty Moretti operatives poured from the shadows of the upper gantry, laser sights painting a hundred red dots across Marco and his men.

Within thirty seconds, the fight was over. Not a single Moretti bullet missed its mark. Marco Valenti crumpled to the concrete floor, his reign of terror finally ending in the dirt and oil of the Brooklyn docks.

Dominic stood over Marco, looking down with absolute coldness. "That was for Mark Miller. And that was for every family you destroyed."
