Chapter 5 - The Arrival of Justice

Red and blue lights strobed against the high arched windows of the St. Aurelia Hotel. Sirens wailed, cutting through the murmurs of the trapped elite.

The heavy doors opened again, and this time, it was the NYPD, followed closely by agents wearing FBI windbreakers.

"Nobody move!" a detective shouted.

Victoria, still pinned by Marcus, started crying crocodile tears. "Help me! Officers, arrest this man! He assaulted me! And that crippled woman ruined my daughter's wedding!"

The lead FBI agent ignored her. He walked straight to Richard Ardell.

"Richard Ardell, you are under arrest for federal wire fraud, embezzlement, and racketeering," the agent said, slapping cuffs on the billionaire.

Savannah screamed, dropping to the floor in her ruined wedding dress. "Daddy! Graham, do something!"

But Graham was backing away, trying to blend into the crowd of terrified guests.

"Graham Whitaker," another agent called out, stepping into his path. "You're coming with us too."

Graham held up his hands, sweating profusely. "On what charges? I didn't know what Richard was doing! I'm just marrying into the family!"

Evelyn stepped forward, handing a flash drive to the detective. "Mr. Whitaker is being arrested for attempted murder."

The words hung in the air like a guillotine blade.

Graham went pale. "What? No! Eleanor had a stroke! It was natural causes!"

"Medical records show that when Eleanor suffered her stroke, you waited four hours before calling 911," Evelyn said, her voice icy. "You let the brain damage spread. You told the doctors she didn't want life support. And we have the security footage from your smart home proving you sat in the living room, drinking scotch, while your wife seized on the bedroom floor."

Graham’s legs gave out. He collapsed onto the marble, weeping, just as beautifully as he had for the cameras eighteen months ago. But this time, no one sent flowers.

As they dragged him past my wheelchair in handcuffs, he looked at me, his eyes wide with pure terror.

I didn't blink. I just watched him go.
