Chapter 10 - A NEW HORIZON

The sun dipped below the tree line, casting a warm golden hue over the patio of our new home—a modest, sunlit house near the coastline far away from the oppressive grey towers of the city.
We had left the ghosts of the past behind, trading the heavy burdens of the Whitmore empire for a quiet, honest life built from scratch.
Emily had visited us the weekend before, bringing news that Charles Whitmore had officially accepted a plea deal guaranteeing him life imprisonment without parole in exchange for sparing his remaining loyalists further prosecution.

I leaned my head against his chest, listening to the steady, reassuring beat of his heart.
"I was just thinking about that wedding invitation Emily placed on the table in the courtroom," I murmured, watching the steam rise from my mug. "Ten years of pain, all wrapped up in a piece of paper."
Daniel pressed a gentle kiss to the top of my head, his fingers interlacing with mine to reveal the platinum band catching the evening light.

"That paper was the end of a lie, Rachel," he said quietly. "Everything we have now is the truth."
I smiled out at the horizon, where the sky melted into the deep blue of the ocean, feeling a profound sense of peace settle deep into my bones.
