Chapter 14 - The Ultimate Stand

The heavy, oppressive silence of the command dome was broken only by the rapid, rhythmic clicking of Nora’s fingers flying across the master terminal keyboard.
Admiral James Holloway stood at the center of the room, flanked by four heavily armed military police officers, their assault rifles leveled squarely at Vance, Creger, and Nora.
"It's over, Lieutenant," Holloway repeated, his voice carrying the calm, absolute authority of a man who believed he held all the cards. "You can't outrun the Department of Defense. And you certainly can't rewrite classified military history from a basement terminal."
Marcus Vance didn't flinch.
He kept his weapon lowered just an inch, his eyes locked onto the admiral with cold, unyielding contempt.
"You think this is about rewriting history, James?" Vance asked, his voice echoing smoothly across the domed room. "This isn't history. This is murder. And the whole world is about to watch the receipt."
Holloway's eyes narrowed dangerously. "What are you talking about?"
Nora didn't stop typing.
The glowing terminal screen reflected green light across her face as the progress bar for the encrypted data upload hit ninety-nine percent.
100%. UPLOAD COMPLETE.
A sharp, automated chime chimed through the bunker's massive audio speakers.
Instantly, every single monitoring screen in the command dome flickered, cutting away from standard radar feeds to display a flashing red warning label:
PUBLIC BROADCAST OVERRIDE — CLASSIFIED DOSSIER: OPERATION ZERO-DELTA.
Holloway's face drained of color in a single, horrified heartbeat.
"What did you do?!" the admiral roared, raising his sidearm and taking a step forward. "Shoot them! Shoot them all right now!"
Before the military police officers could squeeze their triggers, the heavy iron security doors behind them slammed shut with a resounding, metallic crash.
A secondary security override—programmed secretly into the base's architectural sub-net by Nora hours earlier—had automatically locked the command dome from the outside, sealing the exits and cutting off all local override signals.
"You're too late, Admiral," Nora said softly, standing up slowly from the operator's chair. "The archives have been mirrored to five hundred civilian and international servers simultaneously. Even if you kill every single one of us right here, the truth is already out."
Holloway's hand shook violently as he aimed his pistol directly at Nora's chest.
"You arrogant little bitch," the admiral snarled, his professional composure completely shattering under the weight of utter ruin. "You think you can destroy thirty years of service with a single data packet?"
"It wasn't thirty years of service, James," Vance said, stepping smoothly into the line of fire, placing his broad shoulders directly between Holloway and Nora. "It was thirty years of treason."
The admiral’s finger whitened on the trigger.
"Then die with it," Holloway screamed.
Before the gunshot could ring out, Ranger moved with the blinding, feral speed of an apex predator.
The Doberman vaulted across the operator's console, launching himself through the air straight toward the admiral.
Holloway's weapon discharged prematurely, the bullet shattering a ceiling light fixture in a shower of sparks as Ranger’s heavy weight slammed the high-ranking officer violently to the polished floor.
The four military police officers panicked, lowering their rifles as they scrambled to pull the raging Doberman off the screaming admiral, creating just enough tactical confusion for Vance to sweep the legs of the nearest guard and disarm him in a single, fluid motion.
"Hold your fire!" Vance bellowed, leveling the captured assault rifle across the room. "The broadcast is live! Drop your weapons or you go down as co-conspirators to treason!"
May you like
The remaining guards hesitated, looking down at Admiral Holloway, who was pinned helplessly beneath the heavy paws of a Doberman that refused to let go.
Slowly, one by one, the rifles clattered to the floor.
