Chapter 2 - THE TV SCREEN REVELATION: EXPOSING THE MANHUNT TRAIL ON PRIME-TIME DISPLAY

I didn't scream. I didn't throw a plate. I didn't beg for their forgiveness or grovel on the hardwood floor like the broken victim Eleanor desperately wanted me to be.
Instead, a cold, terrifying stillness settled over my entire body.
I wiped the hot tears from my cheeks with the back of my hand, planted my palms flat against the parquet floor, and pushed myself up to a standing position, smoothing down the front of my blouse with deliberate slowness.
Eleanor sneered, taking a step back. “What? Stunned into silence, you little thief? Where are your clever excuses now?”
I ignored her completely.
I walked past her as if she were a ghost, crossed the dining room, and picked up the wireless tablet resting on the sleek mahogany credenza.
With a few swift taps of my thumb, I cast the tablet’s screen directly onto the massive, seventy-inch smart television mounted on the dining room wall.
The family members seated around the table frowned, murmuring amongst themselves, wondering what kind of digital evidence I was about to fabricate.
“You want to talk about bank transfers, Eleanor?” I asked, my voice carrying a smooth, melodic resonance that echoed clearly across the silent room. “Let’s talk about bank transfers.”
On the massive TV screen, my secure banking application interface opened up, displaying my primary financial dashboard.
I tapped the transaction history tab, scrolling down to the exact date and time Eleanor claimed the eighty-thousand-dollar theft had occurred.
“As you can all see,” I pointed out calmly, zooming in on the digital ledger, “the eighty thousand dollars did indeed leave Eleanor’s legacy account.”
Eleanor smirked triumphantly, looking around the table. “There! She admits it! She—!”
“Quiet, Eleanor,” I snapped, my tone dropping an octave into a register of absolute command that made her snap her mouth shut. “Let’s trace the destination routing number of that wire.”
I tapped the receiving account details.
The screen flashed the legal name and account number of the recipient.
Recipient: Marcus Sterling (Personal Offshore Holdings / Account Ending in #8841).
The entire dining room went instantly, deafeningly dead.
Every head at the mahogany table whipped around in unison, their eyes darting away from me and fixing directly on the head of the table.
Marcus turned the color of spoiled milk.
His fork slipped from his fingers, clattering loudly against his porcelain plate as he stared up at the television screen in sheer, unadulterated horror.
The money hadn't gone into my account.
It hadn't touched my digital footprint.
It had been funneled straight into a secret offshore account belonging entirely to my loving, devoted husband.
For five seconds, nobody breathed.
Then, Uncle Arthur cleared his throat awkwardly, looking at Marcus. “Well... Marcus, boy? Care to explain why your mother’s legacy money landed in your private account?”
Marcus opened and closed his mouth like a fish stranded on dry land, sweating profusely under the warm dining room lights. He looked from his mother to the television screen, realizing his carefully laid trap had just blown up right in his face.
“I—uh... that’s... that’s a clerical error!” Marcus stammered, standing up so fast his chair screeched loudly against the floor. “Maya hacked the bank interface! She doctored the code to frame me! Don't listen to her!”
I looked at my husband, a cold, humorless smile touching the corners of my lips.
“Hacked the code, Marcus?” I asked softly. “Are you sure about that? Because your mother spent three days helping you set up that exact offshore account so you could stash your liquid cash before filing for a quiet divorce and leaving me penniless.”
Marcus froze, his eyes widening in sheer terror.
He knew. He knew I had seen right through the entire, pathetic scheme.
Slowly, under the heavy, judgmental glares of his entire extended family—who suddenly looked at him not as the golden boy of the dynasty, but as a bumbling, caught-red-handed thief—Marcus’s defensive posture completely collapsed.
His shoulders slumped. His head dropped.
“Fine!” Marcus roared in frustration, slamming his hands onto the dining table. “Fine! You want the truth?! Mom told me to blame you! She said if we transferred the money into an offshore account and pinned the theft on you, we could invalidate your prenuptial agreement for gross misconduct, kick you out with zero alimony, and keep your startup buyout millions for ourselves!”
There it was.
The full, naked, ugly truth confessed out loud for every single Sterling family member to hear.
Eleanor clutched her pearls, gasping in horror as her son openly threw her under the bus to save his own skin.
I didn't yell. I didn't scream.
I reached out, slipped my diamond wedding ring off my left ring finger, and dropped it onto the pristine white tablecloth in front of Marcus’s plate with a sharp, heavy clink.
Then, I raised my hand and slapped Marcus across the face with enough force to send his head snapping sideways.
“You humiliated the wrong woman, Marcus,” I whispered.
Before anyone else at the table could draw a breath to speak, the heavy front door of the mansion echoed with a loud, authoritative knock, followed by the flashing red and blue strobe lights of police cruisers illuminating the living room windows.

The police had arrived.
And the kitchen camera had recorded every single second of it.
