Chapter 12 - Blood on the Docks

The night air over the South Side shipping yards smelled of stagnant river water, burning diesel, and rotting fish crates.

A light, freezing drizzle fell across the rusted shipping containers that stacked up like jagged mountain ranges along the darkened docks.

Inside Warehouse 4, Arthur Gallagher’s top enforcers were laughing loudly, passing around bottles of cheap whiskey while playing poker under the harsh glare of a single overhead bulb.

They felt invincible.

They believed Lorenzo Moretti’s estate had been leveled, and that by sunrise, the entire city would bend the knee to the Irish syndicate.

They didn't know that the communications relay silo on 22nd Street had gone dark forty-five minutes earlier, its security personnel neutralized with silent precision and its servers wiped clean by a relentless digital ghost.

They didn't know that their financial accounts had already been drained down to the last penny.

And they certainly didn't know who was currently moving through the shadows outside their warehouse doors.

Beatrice crouched atop a towering stack of steel shipping containers twenty feet above the ground.

She wore her heavy black tactical hoodie, a ceramic plate carrier strapped securely over her chest, and the customized SR-25 rifle cradled lovingly in her arms.

Her heavy breathing was entirely silent, regulated through years of sniper discipline in hostile zones.

Through the EOTech Vudu optic, she surveyed the interior of the warehouse through a cracked clerestory window.

Four guards stationed on the ground floor.

Two armed lookouts patrolling the perimeter catwalks.

No tactical awareness.

No discipline.

Just arrogant street thugs waiting to be culled.

She keyed her throat mic, her voice transmitting directly into the encrypted earpieces of Lorenzo’s strike team stationed at the perimeter doors.

“Team one, position yourselves at the southern loading bay,” Beatrice whispered, her tone measured and clinical.

“Team two, secure the escape ladder on the east wall. On my mark: synchronize breach, neutralize targets, zero civilian casualties.”

“Copy that, B.,” Lorenzo’s voice crackled back through the comms, steady and resolute.

Beatrice adjusted the windage knob on her scope, compensating for the cold river mist blowing in off Lake Michigan.

She lined up the crosshairs on the heavy padlock securing the warehouse's primary electrical transformer box fifty yards away.

“Three...” she murmured softly.

“Two... One... Execute.”

With a muffled thump, the heavy suppressor on the SR-25 spat a single 7.62 round across the open yard.

The bullet struck the brass padlock with pinpoint accuracy, shattering the locking mechanism and instantly cutting the warehouse's main power grid.

Absolute darkness plunged the interior into chaos.

Shouts of panic echoed off the corrugated metal walls as the poker players scrambled for their weapons.

“What the hell happened?!” a rough voice roared inside.

“Generator failure! Get to the panels!”

Before the guards could even draw their sidearms, the southern loading bay doors were blown inward with a synchronized crash of breaching charges.

Lorenzo’s men flooded into the warehouse like a disciplined military unit, flashlights cutting through the darkness, sweeping sectors with ruthless efficiency.

On the catwalks above, two lookouts spun around in confusion, raising their submachine guns toward the noise below.

They never saw the threat coming from above.

Beatrice dropped silently from the shipping container stack, landing lightly on the steel catwalk behind them despite her massive frame—her years of physical conditioning and martial training completely belying her outward appearance.

Before the first lookout could turn around, Beatrice’s heavy hand clamped over his mouth while her combat knife flickered in the dim ambient light, ending the threat with ruthless, silent efficiency.

The second guard spun around, eyes wide with sheer terror as he stared down the barrel of her customized SIG Sauer pistol.

He didn't even have time to scream before a single, suppressed round dropped him instantly to the steel grating.

Within ninety seconds, the entire warehouse was secured.

Not a single Moretti man had taken a scratch.

Below, Lorenzo Moretti stepped through the shattered loading bay doors, his boots crunching on broken glass as he surveyed the neutralized enforcers tied securely against concrete pillars.

He looked up toward the catwalk, catching sight of Beatrice standing tall and motionless in the shadows, her rifle held at a low-ready position like an avenging angel of death.

May you like

The docks belonged to the Moretti family once more.

And Arthur Gallagher was completely, terrifyingly exposed.
