Chapter 10 - THE ULTIMATE SHOWDOWN AT THE WAREHOUSE

The abandoned railway warehouse on the outskirts of Long Island City stood like a dark, skeletal monument against the pale dawn sky.
Inside the cavernous, drafty structure, crates of smuggled contraband cast long, distorted shadows across the cracked concrete floor where the final act of the empire was about to play out.
Arthur had brought me here under the cover of darkness after the shootout at the diner, securing a safe vantage point on the upper metal catwalk overlooking the central floor.
Nico’s black armored SUV pulled up outside with screeching tires, followed closely by three other vehicles carrying his remaining loyal enforcers.
The heavy metal doors groaned open, and Nico stepped inside out of the cold morning mist, his face carved from cold stone and burning rage.
He had discovered Marcus’s embezzlement ledger hidden in the office safe alongside Arthur’s note exposing the entire betrayal, realizing too late that his entire world had crumbled from within.
More importantly, Marcus had confessed before regaining full consciousness that I had not only witnessed the downfall, but had actively fought back alongside Arthur.
Nico shouted my name into the empty expanse of the warehouse, his voice echoing off the corrugated iron walls like a wounded animal backed into a corner.
He demanded that I step out of the shadows, screaming that he had built this entire empire for me and that I had no right to walk away.
I slowly stood up from the metal railing of the catwalk upstairs, looking down at the powerful mafia boss who now looked smaller and more pathetic than ever.
My voice rang out clear and steady through the cavernous space, asking him if this was the great comfort he used to brag about while treating me like a piece of furniture.
Nico snapped his head upward, his eyes locking onto mine with a mixture of desperate longing and homicidal fury.
He begged me to come back down, promising that he would change the world, burn his enemies to ash, and give me everything my heart desired.
I looked down at him with profound pity, telling him that the black card, the diamonds, and his empty promises were worth less than the dust on this concrete floor.
Nico’s face twisted into an ugly mask of rage as he raised a silver pistol toward the catwalk, shouting that if he couldn't keep me, nobody else ever would.
Before his finger could squeeze the trigger, Arthur stepped out from the shadows behind him, pressing the barrel of a heavy automatic weapon directly against the back of Nico’s skull.
Arthur whispered softly that the game was over, advising his former boss to drop the weapon before he forced him to rewrite the history books.
Nico froze, the pistol slipping from his trembling fingers and clattering loudly against the concrete floor far below us.
The remaining enforcers lowered their weapons, realizing that their leader had lost his mind and that the empire was officially dead.

I walked slowly down the iron staircase, my heavy combat boots ringing out with every step until I stood just a few feet away from the man who had once sentenced me to be forgotten by Friday.
Nico stared at me with tears in his eyes, whispering my name in a broken Astoria street whisper, finally realizing that no amount of money could ever buy back a soul he had so carelessly thrown away.
