Chapter 15 - The Flight to Incheon and the Final Promise

The private jet climbed steadily through the predawn clouds, banking sharply eastward over the Atlantic before leveling out on a trans-polar vector toward Incheon, South Korea.
Inside the cabin, the luxurious leather seating and polished mahogany accents felt a world away from the dusty, cedar-scented floors of Bennett & Pine Restoration in Portland.
Nora sat by the window, watching the endless expanse of white cloud tops below catch the first golden rays of the high-altitude sunrise.
Julian sat across from her, reviewing a thick dossier of encrypted financial documents on his tablet, his brow furrowed in deep, tactical concentration.
He looked up, catching her gaze, and instantly set the tablet aside on the small walnut table between them.
“You don't have to come with me, Nora,” Julian said, his voice laced with an earnest, protective gravity.
“Once we land in Incheon, I can secure the vault alone. You could stay at the safehouse in Seoul, or I can fly you back to Maine whenever you’re ready.”
Nora looked at him, feeling a sudden surge of fierce, unshakable independence.
She had spent years hiding in the shadows, letting Evan Mercer and the ghosts of her own insecurities dictate the boundaries of her world.
She had survived Vance, she had shattered the Boston syndicate’s ledger with an iron mallet, and she had claimed her rightful place as an artist who took up space without an apology.
She wasn't going to sit this one out in a safehouse.
“My grandfather’s seal is required to open that vault, Julian,” Nora said, lifting her chin with absolute resolve.
“Which means his granddaughter is going to walk through those doors right beside you.”
Julian stared at her for a long moment, the hard, protective edge in his dark eyes melting away into a profound, overwhelming wave of respect and adoration.
He reached across the table, taking her hand in his, his fingers interlacing securely with hers.
“My mother was right about you,” Julian murmured, a soft, rare smile touching his lips.
“You don't just fill the room, Nora. You fill a continent.”
Nora smiled back, squeezing his hand with a strength that left no doubt about who she was and what she was capable of.
“Let’s go see what my grandfather left us,” she said.

As the private jet cut through the upper atmosphere toward the rising sun on the other side of the world, neither of them knew what secrets awaited them in the deep vaults of Incheon.
They only knew that whatever shadows lay ahead, they would face them together—two forces of nature refusing to shrink, refusing to hide, and ready to write the final chapter of their lives on their own terms.
