Chapter 15 - The Unbroken Dynasty

The autumn sun dipped below the jagged black rocks of Black Cliff Ridge, casting a long, amber glow across the sprawling limestone estate.
Inside the north wing master suite, the room was quiet, stripped of the sterile, suffocating tension that had defined it for more than a year.
Matteo was stretched out on the specialized physical therapy mat, his eyes focused intently on the resistance band looped around his bare feet.
“Pull against the tension,” Clara instructed, kneeling beside his right leg, her hands firmly supporting his calf muscles as he flexed his ankles against the elastic cord.
“Ten seconds... nine... eight...”
Matteo’s teeth were gritted, his small chest heaving with effort, but he did not stop.
He pushed against the resistance with every ounce of strength remaining in his young body, refusing to yield to the paralysis that had tried to steal his future.
Vincent stood in the doorway, leaning against the wooden jamb with his arms crossed over his chest, watching the two people who had breathed life back into his ruined world.
The intercom monitors in the subterranean bunker were dark.
The hidden lenses behind the crown molding were no longer recording a prisoner in a glass cage.
Trust was no longer a luxury in Vincent Rossi’s house; it was a foundation built on shared survival, honest grief, and unconditional love.
Clara released the tension band, wiped her forehead with the back of her wrist, and looked up to meet Vincent’s eyes from across the mat.
“He’s done for today,” Clara announced, a tired but genuine smile softening her features.
“Vitals are stable. Muscles are responding.”
“Tomorrow we start the standing frame.”
Matteo let out a long breath, falling back against the mat with a relaxed grin, holding his plush dog securely against his chest.
“Can we order pepperoni pizza for dinner?” Matteo asked, looking directly at his father.
Vincent pushed away from the doorway, walked across the room, and knelt down beside the mat between his son and the woman who had saved them both.
He placed one hand on Matteo’s shoulder and offered his other hand to Clara Hayes, helping her rise to her feet.
“No pizza,” Vincent said, a warm, unfamiliar smile breaking across his scarred face.
“But the chef is making lasagna.”
“And this time, we’re all eating it at the dining room table.”
Matteo cheered, raising his fist into the air, while Clara shook her head with a soft, enduring laugh.
The shadows outside lengthened across the Black Cliff Ridge, swallowing the rolling waves of the Atlantic, but inside the Rossi estate, the darkness was gone for good.
The empire was secure.
