Chapter 13 - The Infiltration Of Rainier Tower And The Digital Heist

By 2:00 AM, the towering glass monolith of the Rainier Tower in downtown Seattle was completely shrouded in the quiet, damp gloom of a Pacific Northwest night.
From the secure surveillance van parked three blocks away, David Chen’s twin monitors illuminated his face with a pale, steady blue glow as he bypassed the building’s secondary security protocols with surgical precision.
“I’m inside their local area network,” David whispered, his fingers dancing across the mechanical keyboard with blistering speed.
“Routing through their backup server architecture… bypassing the biometric access gates… and… boom. We have full administrative root access to Victor Thorne’s private database.”
I sat beside him in the swivel chair of the van, wrapped in a dark trench coat, watching lines of encrypted data cascade down the screen like a digital waterfall.
“Look for offshore communication logs,” I instructed quietly, my eyes scanning the directories.
“Look for any correspondence between Thorne’s agency and Ron Mercer—or anyone acting on behalf of the Mercer estate.”
“Searching…” David muttered, hitting a series of complex search parameters.
Suddenly, a heavily encrypted folder flashed red on the screen: Project Ledger — Sterling Recovery.
“Got it,” David breathed, double-clicking the folder.
Files, audio recordings, and financial ledgers began streaming into our local drive.
I leaned in close, clicking on the audio transcripts first.
The digital recording started playing through our secure headphones.
“The target is more resilient than anticipated,” a cold, gravelly voice echoed through my earphones—Victor Thorne speaking to an unknown associate.
“She dismantled Sterling Industries in less than a week and handed our offshore ledger directly to the feds. But her foundation is expanding rapidly next month. If we disrupt her public profile before the regional gala, the investors will pull out, her credit lines will freeze, and her legal shield will shatter.”
A second voice replied—smoother, younger, and dripping with corporate malice.
“And the physical intimidation? The flashlight drop?”
“Standard pressure tactics,” Thorne’s voice answered.
“Remind her that no matter how many federal agents are guarding her gates, we can reach her anywhere, anytime. Break her confidence first, then take the trust funds back piece by piece.”
I pulled the headphones off, tossing them onto the console with a sharp clatter.
My jaw was clenched so tight my teeth ached, but my mind was operating with the terrifying, crystal-clear focus of a tactical commander on the battlefield.
“They aren't just trying to scare me,” I said, my voice dropping to a low, dangerous whisper.
“They’re planning a coordinated sabotage campaign against the foundation’s regional expansion gala next week.”
“What’s our counter-move, boss?” Miller asked from the front seat of the van, his hand resting on his tactical gear.
“We don't wait for them to make a move,” I replied, standing up and buttoning my coat.
“David, copy every single financial record, tax evasion document, and illegal extortion log from Thorne’s private server. Package it into an encrypted digital brief.”
“Done,” David confirmed instantly, pulling a thumb drive from the mainframe port.
“What’s the plan with the files, Elena?” Marcus Vance asked, watching me intently.

“We aren't going to the police yet,” I stated with a cold, triumphant smile.
“We’re going to send Victor Thorne a special delivery of his own medicine. Let’s see how professional he feels when the federal banking commission freezes his agency's operational accounts twenty-four hours before his payroll clears.”
