Chapter 6 - The Dark Legacy: Unearthing the Truth About Leo’s Father

"You want to know why I couldn't tell you who the father was ten years ago?" I asked, my voice cutting through the heavy tension like a razor-sharp blade. I stepped past my stunned parents into the entryway, bringing Leo right into the hallway with me.
My father tried to physically block my path, but his legs trembled so violently that he nearly collapsed against the console table.
"Stop it, Emma! Get out of this house!" my father yelled, panic overriding his authority. "You don't know what you're doing! You're opening Pandora's box!"
"It was already opened the day you forced me to choose between my dignity and my family, Dad!" I shot back, stepping right up to him. "For ten years, you thought I was just a rebellious, foolish teenager who got herself pregnant by some nameless delinquent. You blamed my stubbornness. But you never asked why I refused to name him. You never asked because deep down, you were terrified of the answer."
My mother slid down the wall until she was sitting on the carpeted floor of the foyer, sobbing uncontrollably, burying her face in her hands.
"Tell them, Mom," I whispered, looking down at her with a mix of pity and lingering resentment. "Tell them why I couldn't speak his name. Tell them whose blood runs through Leo's veins."
Leo looked up at me, sensing the monumental gravity of the moment, but remained completely silent, his young mind absorbing every word with terrifying clarity.
"It wasn't a local boy," I continued, turning back to face my trembling father. "It wasn't some college student I met at a party. The man who fathered my child... the man whose genetics are stamped all over my son's face..."
I paused, letting the silence build to a deafening crescendo.
"...was Viktor Vance."
The moment those three syllables dropped into the room, my father let out a choked, desperate sound—like a man taking his final breath before drowning. His knees finally gave out, and he dropped heavily onto the wooden bench beside the door, burying his face in his shaking hands.
Viktor Vance.

The name alone carried enough weight to crush empires in our corner of Ohio. He was my father’s lifelong business partner, the billionaire philanthropist, the untouchable real estate magnate who had funded half of Columbus, and—most terrifying of all—a man who had been convicted two years prior of unspeakable, monstrous crimes that shocked the entire nation.
"Now do you understand why I wouldn't let you force me to abort him?" I asked bitterly, tears finally breaking free from my own eyes. "Viktor was twice my age. He used his power, his influence, and his mentorship over my father to trap me in his orbit. When I got pregnant, he threatened to ruin our family completely if I dared to expose him. But when I told you I couldn't end the pregnancy because it would affect all of us... you chose your pride, your social standing, and your business partnership over your own flesh and blood."
