Chapter 6 - The True Heir of the Empire

Nathan staggered backward, his spine hitting the marble pillar with a dull thud. "You're insane," he stammered, his face twisting in desperate denial. "Dad, tell her she’s lying! Tell everyone she’s out of her mind!"
Ethan didn't answer. He stood frozen under Marcus’s grip, his eyes locked onto the Genetech report in my hand with an expression of pure, unadulterated horror. He knew the paperwork was real. He had signed the non-disclosure agreements with the Montreal clinic himself, believing those files had been permanently shredded during the corporate restructuring of 2010.
What Ethan never understood—what none of them understood—was that Caitlyn Richardson never threw anything away.
"When my mother passed away last year," I said, my voice steady and clear, cutting through the murmurs of the stunned crowd, "she left behind a safety deposit box at the Boston Safe Deposit and Trust Company. Inside wasn't just a letter. It was a complete digital archive of every wire transfer, every hush-money receipt, every medical affidavit, and a full DNA comparison mapping file linking Nathan’s genetic markers not to Ethan Richardson... but to Michelle’s former husband, Victor Vance—the man Ethan systematically ruined and drove out of the city thirty years ago to steal his patents."
The ballroom erupted into absolute pandemonium.
The society reporter was typing so fast her fingers were a blur. Across the room, several major investors stood up from their tables, conferring in urgent whispers. The overseas client from Hamburg shook his head in sheer disbelief, muttering curses in German as he dialed his legal counsel on his mobile phone.
Nathan dropped his head into his hands, the reality crashing down on him with crushing weight. All his life, he had been told he was the golden child, the rightful king of the Richardson dynasty, while I was treated as an interloper who should be grateful for scraps. Now, the entire foundation of his identity had dissolved into a fraudulent fiction built on blackmail, corporate theft, and stolen patents.
"You built this entire empire," I said, looking directly down at my father, who was still trapped by Marcus’s steady hand in the center of the room, "on Victor Vance’s intellectual property, and you maintained your control by manufacturing a fake bloodline that you used to manipulate every single person in this family."
Ethan’s knees seemed to buckle slightly. The towering, untouchable patriarch of Boston high society looked suddenly old, brittle, and defeated. The armor of wealth and arrogance had been stripped away in front of the exact audience he had invited to witness my humiliation.
"And tonight," I added, my voice ringing out with crystal clarity, "you thought you could use my wedding as the grand finale of your cruelty. You thought I would stand there in silk and silence, accepting your public dismissal like a dutiful victim."
May you like
I slowly folded the Genetech report and placed it back inside the silver clutch.
"You miscalculated, Father."
