Noah realized that the "door" he had closed behind him that night on the bus wasn't a retreat; it was an entrance to a new life. He had been a man of silence, but now, he was a man of purpose.

Ranger let out a soft huff and pressed his side against Noah’s leg. The old man leaned down, scratching the spot behind the dog’s torn ear. They were home. And for the first time in his life, Noah wasn't just surviving the cold—he was helping others find the fire.
