Chapter 6 - The Boardroom and the Bedroom

Eleanor did not go down quietly.

Like a cornered animal, she tried to fight back using the only weapon she knew: social manipulation.

She called everyone in our social circle. She spread vicious rumors that I was having a mental breakdown.

She claimed I was abusive, that I had thrown her out in the middle of the night in a fit of alcoholic rage.

Some people believed her. In the wealthy circles of the city, scandal was a currency, and people loved to trade it.

But Eleanor had underestimated my ruthlessness. She thought I was just a businessman.

She didn't realize that in the boardroom, I was known as an executioner. I didn't play defensive. I went on the offensive.

One week after she left, Eleanor attended a high-profile charity gala.

She had managed to borrow a dress and was parading around, playing the victim, trying to secure a new wealthy patron to fund her legal defense.

I attended the same gala.

When I walked into the ballroom, the whispers started. People stared.

Eleanor saw me and smiled a venomous, confident smile, thinking she had the home-field advantage.

I didn't cause a scene. I simply walked up to the podium, having previously arranged to be the evening's primary donor.

I took the microphone.

“Ladies and gentlemen,” I said, my voice echoing through the silent ballroom. “Tonight, we are here to support children in need. Children who are vulnerable. Children who suffer in silence.”

I looked directly at Eleanor.

“Recently, I discovered that a child was suffering in my own home. My daughter.”

The crowd gasped.

“I discovered that the woman I married, Eleanor Sterling, had been starving my nine-year-old daughter. Locking her in rooms. Tormenting her while I was away providing for our family.”

Eleanor’s face went chalk white.

“He’s lying!” she shrieked, breaking the decorum of the event.

I pulled out a small remote and pointed it at the massive projector screen behind me. I didn't show the worst of it. I just played one clip.

The audio echoed through the ballroom. It was Eleanor’s voice, clear as day, caught on a security camera in the hallway.

“You are a filthy mistake, Maya. If you touch my things again, I won't feed you for three days. You are nothing but a leftover.”

The ballroom erupted in horrified gasps. Women covered their mouths. Men glared at Eleanor in absolute disgust.

I turned the screen off.

“I am donating ten million dollars tonight to the child protection services of this city,” I announced calmly. “And I am ensuring that the woman who abused my child will never show her face in polite society again.”

I walked off the stage. Eleanor was surrounded by security guards, attempting to escort her out as the guests hurled insults at her.

Her social standing was dead. Her financial life was destroyed.

The police arrested her the following morning for embezzlement and child neglect.

The facade had crumbled completely. Justice was swift, public, and absolute.
