Chapter 10 - A New Legacy

Ten years later.

The sound of breaking glass echoed through the grand ballroom.

I smiled, adjusting my elegant dress.

It was just a clumsy waiter dropping a champagne flute.

Nobody panicked. Nobody drew a weapon.

The estate was a different place now.

Alejandro had kept his promise. After eradicating the threat, he slowly transitioned his empire into legitimate businesses.

Real estate, shipping, technology.

He was still powerful, still feared by those who knew his past, but he was no longer a mobster in the shadows.

He was a father.

I walked out onto the terrace.

My mother, Maria, was standing there, looking beautiful in a silk gown, laughing at something Alejandro had said.

They had married five years ago.

I was no longer the maid’s daughter hiding in the basement.

I was Emma Moretti.

Alejandro walked over to me, handing me a glass of sparkling cider.

“Nervous about your exams tomorrow, kid?” he asked, putting a heavy, comforting hand on my shoulder.

“A little,” I admitted. “Medical school applications are tough.”

He smiled proudly.

“You’ll do fine. You’ve had the instincts of a doctor since you were four years old.”

I looked down at the small, framed shadowbox hanging on the wall inside his new study.

Inside the glass case was a tiny, empty pink epinephrine injector.

Below it was a plaque that read: The shot that saved an empire.

“I love you, Dad,” I said, leaning against him.

Alejandro kissed the top of my head, looking out over the peaceful grounds.

“I love you too, Emma. More than life.”

The hidden camera in the old study had exposed a traitor that night.

But it also exposed a truth.
