Chapter 6 - A New Dawn

Two years later.
The city skyline sparkled outside the floor-to-ceiling windows of the newly rebranded Sterling Enterprises.
The Vance name had been completely erased from the corporate world, swallowed up and dismantled by my restructuring.
Dominic’s life had become the very thing he used to mock.
After being blacklisted from the corporate sector due to the embezzlement scandal, he was now working as a mid-level shift manager at a hardware store.
He lived in a tiny, cramped apartment on the outskirts of the city.
He was alone, bitter, and painfully aware that his bloodline ended with him.
Victoria’s fate was even worse.
She had been convicted of aggravated assault.
Though she avoided a long prison sentence due to her age, she was slapped with a massive fine, house arrest, and three years of probation.
Stripped of her wealth and her elite friends, she spent her days locked in a small rented duplex, screaming at daytime television.
They had built a prison of their own arrogance, and I had simply handed them the keys.
As for me, I had never felt more alive.
I poured my energy and my inheritance into expanding my empire, but this time, with a purpose.
I opened the Sterling Foundation, a massive non-profit organization dedicated to providing safe housing, legal counsel, and financial independence for women trapped in abusive domestic situations.
I turned my greatest trauma into a shield for others.
A soft knock on my office door pulled me from my thoughts.
Julian walked in, carrying two cups of artisan coffee.
He wasn't just my CEO anymore. Over the last two years, our professional respect had bloomed into a deep, steady, and quiet romance.
He didn't need my money, and he never tried to control my power.
He simply stood beside me, an equal in every sense of the word.
“The quarterly reports are in,” Julian smiled, handing me a cup. “We exceeded projections by twenty percent.”
“Not bad,” I teased, taking a sip. “I might just keep you around.”
Julian stepped closer, wrapping a warm, strong arm around my waist, pressing a gentle kiss to my temple.
“You couldn't get rid of me if you tried, Boss.”
I leaned into his embrace, looking out over the city that was now mine.
The scars of the past were still there.
I would never forget the baby I lost on those cold marble stairs.
But I was no longer defined by that pain. I was defined by how I survived it.
I had walked into their house as a girl desperate for a family's love.
I walked out as a queen who built her own empire.

And as the afternoon sun cast a golden glow across my office, I knew with absolute certainty:
I was exactly where I was meant to be.
