Chapter 6 - The Unraveling

Without access to my funds, Daniel’s life began to disintegrate at an exponential rate. The luxury car was repossessed, his credit score plummeted to the point of bankruptcy, and Vanessa—the woman he had sacrificed his marriage for—had long since blocked his number. She didn't want a "broken" man; she wanted the lifestyle he had promised but couldn't deliver. I watched him from afar, not with joy, but with the detached interest of an analyst watching a failed experiment.
He tried to reach out multiple times, sending long, rambling emails about how much he "loved" me and how the whole ordeal was just a "terrible mistake." Each email was forwarded to my legal team as evidence of his instability and his ongoing attempts to harass me. He was essentially a ghost, haunting the periphery of a life he no longer had access to. He had spent twelve years thinking I was just a source of income, never realizing that my mind was the true engine of our success. Without the engine, the vehicle—and the man driving it—were simply wreckage on the side of the road.
He was forced to move into a low-rent motel, a stark contrast to the home he had tried to steal. I saw him once, at a local grocery store, his clothes wrinkled and his spirit clearly broken. He looked like a man who had finally realized that he was the architect of his own demise. He looked away before I could see him, but I didn't need to. I had already moved on. I had begun the process of auditing my own happiness, finding that the absence of his toxicity was the greatest asset I had ever acquired. The "forensic accountant" was now focusing all her energy on the balance sheet of her own future.
