Chapter 2 - Champagne, Lobsters, and Parasites: The Mansion Hijacked

My private car rolled through the wrought-iron security gates of my Dallas estate without a single warning honk or flashing light. I had told nobody about my return. I wanted the homecoming to be an unforgettable surprise for Emma—a quiet, emotional reunion where I could pull her into my arms, shed the heavy burden of the past five years, and slip the sparkling diamond necklace around her neck.

Instead, the moment the tires crunched onto the paved driveway, I was hit by an overwhelming sensory shock. Unfamiliar, hyper-expensive luxury sports cars—porsches, Maseratis, and European imports—crowded the driveway, spilling over onto the manicured lawns.

Loud, boisterous laughter and thumping bass music echoed from the back patio and through the floor-to-ceiling glass windows of my living room. Puzzled, I stepped out of the vehicle and walked toward the grand double doors, which had been left wide open.

The scene inside made my blood run instantly cold.

My home had been entirely colonized. The formal dining room table, crafted from rare African mahogany, groaned under an obscene mountain of gourmet excess: giant prime rib steaks, freshly boiled lobsters, imported caviar, and endless bottles of vintage champagne.

At the head of the table sat my mother, Margaret, draped in heavy gold jewelry and designer silk that easily cost more than my first car. My sister Jennifer and her freeloading husband were dressed like Hollywood celebrities attending an awards gala, laughing uproariously as my younger brother, Michael, stood up and raised a crystal flute high into the air.

"To my brilliant brother Liam!" Michael sneered, his eyes glazed with alcohol and arrogance. "May he keep working his fingers to the bone overseas, and may his wire transfers never, ever bounce! Another toast to our endless golden goose!"

Explosive laughter erupted around the table. Dozens of people—distant relatives and social-climbing parasites I had never laid eyes on in my life—clinked their glasses together, mocking the very man who was funding their decadent, worthless existence.

I froze right near the entrance, hidden safely in the dim shadows of the grand foyer. My heart hammered violently against my ribs. A dark, suffocating fury began to coil deep within my chest.

I looked around the grand room, scanning every face, but the one face I desperately needed to see was completely missing.
