Chapter 6 - The Unraveling

He refused to leave at first. He screamed. He threatened to call the police. So, I let him. When the officers arrived, Jack confidently told them his crazy wife was throwing him out of his own house. I didn't argue. I simply handed the officers a stack of documents Gerald had couriered over an hour ago. The property deed. The prenuptial agreement Jack had signed ten years ago without reading, assuming I had no assets. And a restraining order I had instantly filed online citing emotional abuse and financial fraud. The officers looked at the paperwork, then looked at Jack. "Sir, you need to vacate the premises," the older officer said firmly. "This is my house!" Jack roared. "Not according to the state of Texas, sir. Grab your bags."

I watched from the doorway as the police escorted my husband of ten years down the driveway. He dragged his trash bags behind him in the dirt. He looked pathetic. Small. Exactly the size he was before I built him up. The next few weeks were a masterclass in total destruction. I didn't have to lift a finger; Gerald's legal team handled it all. The audit of Jack's clinic revealed massive mismanagement. Since I was the primary shareholder, I legally dissolved the practice. The medical board opened an investigation into his billing practices. Jack's reputation in the Dallas medical community evaporated overnight.

Carol's house was seized by the bank. She tried to call me, leaving sobbing, hysterical voicemails begging for forgiveness. She claimed Jack had brainwashed them. She claimed she always loved me like a daughter. I forwarded her voicemails to her new landlord at the cheap motel she was forced to move into. Ashley was evicted from her luxury condo. She tried to sue me, claiming squatters' rights. Gerald's team buried her in legal fees so fast she had to declare personal bankruptcy within a month. They had built a family without me. Now, they had nothing but each other. And it turned out, without my money to grease the wheels, they actually hated each other.

As for Chloe? She lasted exactly forty-eight hours after the airport incident. Once she realized Jack was not a wealthy, brilliant surgeon, but a broke, unemployed man living in an extended-stay motel, she vanished. She blocked his number and went back to her ex-boyfriend in Austin. Every thread of Jack's perfect life had been unraveled. And I hadn't even broken a sweat.
