Chapter 3 - The Mastermind Revealed

The proof did not just trickle in; it poured in like a devastating flood. Over the next three hours, I sat in my dark office and watched my life’s biggest mistake play out in high-definition evidence. David had uncovered the entire, sickening scheme.
I opened the first folder. The hotel photos that supposedly proved Emily had cheated on me? They were digitally altered. David found the original stock images used to Photoshop Emily’s face onto another woman’s body. The witness—the bartender who swore he saw her kissing another man—had received a wire transfer of ten thousand dollars the day before he testified. The sender was a shell company registered to Marcus Bennett, Ashley’s older brother.
I felt a wave of nausea wash over me, forcing me to run to my private bathroom to throw up. When I came back, I clicked on the video file David had attached, labeled "Security_Master_Bedroom_Deleted." Ashley had told me the cameras were off that week for maintenance, but she had lied. David recovered the deleted footage from the cloud server.
I watched in horror as the video showed Ashley sneaking into my bedroom, holding my mother’s priceless, antique diamond necklace—the very necklace Emily swore she never touched. I watched Ashley smile to herself, open Emily’s dresser drawer, bury the necklace under a pile of sweaters, and close it. Two hours later, Ashley miraculously "discovered" it while helping me look for something else.
I buried my face in my hands and wept like a child. For a whole year, I had blamed an innocent, loving woman. I had cursed her name to my friends and family. Meanwhile, Emily had survived alone on the streets. Pregnant. Terrified. Cold. Abandoned by the man who swore to protect her. And it was all because I trusted my massive ego and my pride more than I trusted my wife’s tears.

The final report in David's file nearly destroyed whatever was left of my soul. Emily had tried again and again to reach me, not just at the hospital, but calling my phone for months while carrying our children. Her number had been blocked from my device, her emails routed to a hidden spam folder and deleted, and her physical letters intercepted by a receptionist Ashley had hand-picked and hired.
Every single path led back to Ashley. She had not only ruined my beautiful marriage; she had stolen my family, my children, and a year of our lives. I wiped my tears. The sadness evaporated, and in its place, a cold, calculated rage took over.
