Chapter 8 - A New Beginning

My daughter, Clara, was born on a crisp autumn morning.
She had my eyes and a tuft of dark hair.
Holding her in my arms, I felt a love so profound it moved me to tears.
My father wept when he held his granddaughter for the first time.
The hospital wing was entirely secured by our private team.
It was peaceful.
It was perfect.
A few days later, Julian stopped by to visit.
Julian was the Chief Operating Officer of Sterling Global, and my father's trusted right-hand man.
He was also someone who had known me since childhood.
He had always warned me about Dominic.
"I brought gifts," Julian said, walking in with a giant pink teddy bear.
He looked dashing in his tailored suit, his warm brown eyes filled with genuine affection.
"You didn't have to do that," I smiled.
"For the newest Sterling heir? I absolutely had to," he laughed.
He sat by the bed and looked at Clara.
"She's beautiful, Vivienne."
"She really is."
We talked for hours.
About the company, about the future, about nothing at all.
There was an easy comfort between us.
No pretending.
No hiding who I was.
As he was leaving, Julian paused at the door.
"I know it's early," he said softly.
"And I know you've been through hell."
"But when you're ready..."
"I'd love to take you to dinner. Properly."
I looked at him.
I saw respect. I saw patience. I saw a real partner.
I smiled.
"I'd like that, Julian."
May you like
"I'd like that a lot."
For the first time in years, my heart felt light.
