Chapter 7 - The Aftermath

I held my son so tightly I thought I might break him, burying my face in his hair, breathing in the scent of him.

He was safe. We were safe.

"You did it, Mom," Tyler cried, clinging to my jacket.

"No, sweetheart," I whispered, kissing his forehead. "You did it. You saved us."

The next few weeks were a whirlwind of legal proceedings, FBI debriefings, and media chaos.

The news of Harrison Vance's arrest sent shockwaves through the financial world.

The evidence Tyler had gathered was bulletproof. The DA didn't just have enough to put Harrison away; they had enough to dismantle the entire Eastern European syndicate's operation in the United States.

Harrison's defense team tried to argue that the evidence was obtained illegally by a minor.

But Elias had planned for that, too.

The DA claimed the evidence had been anonymously mailed to them, and since Tyler was a minor acting independently to protect his mother from imminent harm, the whistle-blower protections applied.

Harrison was denied bail. He was facing over forty years in federal prison.

His assets, his mansions, his cars—all seized by the government.

But not the $3.8 million.

"I still don't understand," I said to Elias one afternoon as we sat in his Manhattan office, finalizing our security arrangements. "How did Tyler manage to keep that money legally?"

Elias poured two cups of coffee and smiled.

"Because it was never Harrison's money to begin with. It was an irrevocable trust fund set up by Harrison's grandfather for his first-born grandson."

He handed me a cup.

"Harrison was the trustee, but he was legally barred from touching the principal. Tyler didn't steal it; he simply executed a digital change of trustee—from Harrison, back to you, the secondary legal guardian. He transferred it into a secure, untraceable account to ensure his father couldn't illegally drain it to pay his mafia debts."

I stared at Elias in awe. "He figured all of that out at thirteen?"

"Your son," Elias said softly, "is a genius. And he loves you very much."
