Chapter 10 - The Resurrection
The news broke two days later, sending shockwaves through the financial world.
The headline on every major network read: BILLIONAIRE CEO RICHARD VANCE WALKS AGAIN; FAMILY ARRESTED FOR MURDER PLOT.
I was sitting in the kitchen of the mansion, watching the television, drinking my coffee.
My phone started buzzing relentlessly.
Missed calls from unknown numbers, text messages pouring in.
I opened one text. It was from Daniel.
Emily, is that you on the news? Are you working for the guy who got his family arrested?! Call me back!
Another text chimed in, this one from Margaret, my ex-mother-in-law.
Emily dear, I saw you on TV. I always knew you had a bright future. We should have lunch soon.
I stared at the messages, a slow, satisfying smile spreading across my face.
They were crawling back, just like Margaret had predicted I would.
But I wasn’t the one on the ground.
I blocked both of their numbers without a second thought.
Richard walked into the kitchen, wearing a perfectly tailored charcoal suit.
He looked powerful, healthy, and entirely in control.
“Ready?” he asked.
“For the press conference?” I asked, standing up.
“For everything,” he replied, offering me his arm.
We walked out of the mansion together, not as employer and employee, but as partners.
The driveway was swarming with reporters and flashing cameras.
Richard stepped up to the podium, completely unsupported by a cane or chair.
The gasps from the press corps were audible.
“A few months ago, I was told my life was over,” Richard spoke into the microphones, his voice booming with authority.
“I was told to accept my limitations. I chose not to.”
He looked directly at the cameras.
“Vance Enterprises is under my control again. The toxic elements have been removed.”
A reporter shouted from the front row.
“Mr. Vance! Who is the woman standing beside you? Is she your nurse?”
May you like
Richard looked at me, his eyes crinkling with warmth.
“No,” Richard said clearly. “She is the new Vice President of Internal Affairs for Vance Enterprises.”
