Chapter 3 - The Nine-Figure Drop

Monday morning. 8:00 AM Eastern Standard Time.

I was drinking green tea on my porch, watching the morning mist roll through the pine trees.

My phone was on silent.

At exactly 8:01 AM, the financial world shifted.

The press release hit the wires.

"TECH TITAN ACQUIRES SENTINEL AI FOR $900 MILLION; FOUNDER ELARA VANCE BECOMES YOUNGEST SELF-MADE FEMALE BILLIONAIRE."

The article detailed everything.

How I had spent three years living in a remote cabin, coding an advanced neural network architecture that revolutionized predictive data modeling.

How I retained 100% equity of my company because I refused venture capital, bootstrapping the entire operation by eating ramen and wearing thrift store clothes.

How the acquisition was one of the largest single-founder payouts in Silicon Valley history.

And right there, at the top of the Forbes article, was a high-resolution professional portrait of me.

The girl in the thrift store hoodie.

It took exactly forty-five minutes for the internet to connect the dots.

Someone on Twitter cross-referenced my Forbes portrait with the viral TikTok video that was currently sitting at 4 million views.

A user with a massive following quote-tweeted Caleb’s video.

“Wait... is the 'deadbeat sister' getting hot coffee poured on her Elara Vance? The woman who literally just sold her AI company for $900 MILLION this morning???”

The internet is a wild, unpredictable beast.

When it thinks you're a deadbeat, it will tear you apart.

But when it realizes you're a self-made billionaire who was brutally assaulted by a family of clout-chasing abusers?

The beast turns around.

And it bites back. Hard.

By 10:00 AM, the narrative had violently flipped.

Caleb's comment section wasn't laughing anymore. It was a war zone.

“Bro, your mom assaulted a billionaire because she thought she was broke. Enjoy prison.”

“You guys look like literal trash. She was building an empire while you were filming TikToks.”

“Arrest the mother. This is literally video evidence of felony assault.”

My phone started vibrating so hard it nearly danced off the table.

Emails. DMs. Texts.

But not from haters anymore.

From journalists. From CNBC. From Good Morning America.

And then, the texts from my family started rolling in.

Beatrice: Elara? Honey? What is this article? Is this a joke?

Beatrice: Elara, please pick up. People are leaving horrible comments on my Instagram.

Caleb: Yo, is this real? You sold a company for $900M? Why didn't you tell us?!

Maya: Elara, people are doxxing us. Call me right now.

I didn't answer.

I just watched the dominoes start to fall.

And the flames were just getting started.
