Chapter 10 - The Miami Eviction

While Boston dealt with the fallout of the Caldwell family’s public disgrace, down in Miami, the final act of financial eviction was playing out under the tropical sun. Vance Miller, my head of security, sent me a secure video feed from the Brickell penthouse just as local bailiffs and moving contractors arrived at the double doors. Tessa—exhausted, heavily pregnant, and dressed in rumpled loungewear—stood in the foyer surrounded by designer suitcases, screaming at two local deputies who were politely but firmly informing her that her lease had been voided due to fraudulent corporate funding. “I have rights! I’m about to give birth!” she sobbed hysterically into her phone, presumably trying to reach Ethan’s defense attorney, unaware that Ethan was currently sitting in a holding cell at Suffolk County House of Correction unable to make his million-dollar bail. “You can’t throw me out! This is illegal!” “Ma’am, please step toward the elevator,” the lead deputy instructed calmly, pointing toward the open doors. “The corporate entity holding this lease has been dissolved by court order. All contents are being inventoried as recovered assets.” On my end of the encrypted feed, I watched as Tessa was forced to pack her remaining belongings into plastic bins and wheel them down to the lobby, past the staring eyes of doormen and residents who recognized her from the gossip blogs that had already picked up the story under the headline: “THE FALCON AND THE FRAUD: How Hartwell Heiress Blew Up Husband’s Secret Miami Syndicate.” She didn't look like a glamorous princess anymore. She looked like what she had always been: a transient grifter whose house of cards had finally collapsed under the weight of its own greed. By sunset, the penthouse was completely empty, scrubbed clean, and officially handed back to Hartwell Designs’ Florida holding subsidiary. The Miami chapter was closed forever.
