Chapter 10 - The Empress of Queens

The morning sun flooded the master suite with a warm, golden light, chasing away the last remnants of the shadows that had plagued this house for so long.
I lay against the pillows, exhausted but filled with a profound, overwhelming sense of peace. In my arms rested a tiny, perfect bundle wrapped in a soft white blanket. She had a thick tuft of dark hair, just like mine, and when she opened her tiny eyes, they were a striking, clear grey—just like her father's.
Roman sat on the edge of the bed, looking down at his daughter with an expression of pure, unadulterated reverence. The man who controlled the entire East Coast underworld was weeping silently, his shoulders shaking as he reached out a single finger, which the baby immediately wrapped her tiny hand around.
"What should we name her?" Roman asked, his voice thick with emotion.
"Victoria," I said gently, looking down at her perfect face. "Because she is our victory. And her middle name will be Mae, after my mother."
"Victoria Mae Kane," Roman repeated, a smile finally breaking across his face. "The future of this family."
The heavy oak doors of the bedroom opened quietly, and Matteo entered, carrying a heavy, leather-bound ledger. Behind him stood the high-ranking captains of the Kane syndicate, men who had once doubted my right to be here.
They did not carry weapons today. They carried respect.
They lined up at the foot of the bed, bowing their heads in unison to me and the child in my arms.
"The Commission has officially recognized the birthright, Boss," Matteo said, his voice filled with pride. "The assets have been transferred into a trust under Victoria’s name. The New York families have sworn their allegiance to the new heir."
Don Carmine stepped forward from the group, placing a beautiful, antique silver rattle on the bedside table. He looked at me, his old eyes crinkling with a new-found respect. "You handled yourself like a true queen during the storm, Mrs. Kane. This family is in good hands."
"Thank you, Carmine," I said, holding his gaze. "But remember... I may be a Kane now, but I will always be a girl from Queens. Don't ever forget what happens when you underestimate us."
The captains chuckled, a warm, genuine sound that marked the true end of the war. They bowed once more before exiting the room, leaving our little family in peace.
Roman crawled onto the bed beside me, pulling both me and Victoria into his massive chest. He wrapped his arms around us, creating a safe, impenetrable barrier against the rest of the world.

Looking out the window at the beautiful, sunny morning, I knew that our life would never be simple. There would always be dangers, always be enemies lurking in the shadows of the Kane name. But as I looked at my beautiful daughter sleeping peacefully against my breast, and the husband who had risked everything to protect us, I knew we were ready.
We had survived the freezing rain. We had conquered the mafia royalty. And together, we would build a new empire—one built not just on blood, but on a love that could never be broken.
