Chapter 9 - The Reckoning

The fight in the hallway was brutal, swift, and merciless.

Dominic moved like a shadow through the smoke and flashing muzzle flare, taking down 3 of Vance’s mercenaries before they even realized he had left the study.

Heavy boots pounded down the corridor.

Julian Vance himself appeared at the doorway, panting, a pistol clutched in his sweaty hand, his face twisted in manic fury.

“Gallow!” Vance roared, raising his weapon.

Before Vance could pull the trigger, Dominic’s suppressor spat twice.

Vance stumbled backward, dropping his gun as blood bloomed across his chest, and collapsed against the doorframe before sliding down to the blood-stained carpet—the exact same fate Frank had met months earlier.

Silence fell over the mansion, broken only by the steady hiss of rain outside.

Dominic lowered his weapon, his chest heaving, his dark eyes scanning the ruined hallway.

“Clear,” Dominic’s voice echoed coldly through the comms.

A moment later, Marcus appeared around the corner, wiping blood from his forehead.

“All of Vance’s men are neutralized or captured, boss. The federal wiretap agencies just raided Vance’s downtown warehouses. His entire empire is collapsing in real time.”

Dominic nodded curtly, then turned and punched the keypad for the panic room.

The heavy steel door swung open.

Norah stepped out, blinking against the dim light, her linen blazer stained with dust, her hair messy, but her eyes fierce and alive.

Dominic crossed the room in 2 strides, grabbing her face in his hands and pulling her into a kiss so fierce and desperate that it left her breathless.

“You okay?” he whispered against her lips.

“I’m better than okay,” Norah answered, a brilliant, genuine smile breaking across her face. “We won.”
