Chapter 4 - THE SILENT WITNESS IN THE CEILING

Isabella’s performance was a masterpiece of deceit. Her voice cracked with the exact pitch of a frightened victim; her tears flowed with theatrical precision; her trembling hands clutched at the collar of her crimson gown as if she were shaking off a brush with death.
"She was shouting terrible things, Marcus," Isabella wept softly, keeping her eyes fixed on the billionaire with a look of desperate appeal. "She said you never really loved her, that she was going to ruin everything you built... I tried to hold her back, to calm her down, but she just lost control of herself!"
Elaine Parker swallowed hard, looking down at Khloe, who was still curled in agony on the floor, unable to form words through the pain and shock. Elaine wanted to believe her boss's wife, but something in the air felt wrong—the jagged glass, the brutal angle of Khloe’s fall, the unnatural speed with which Isabella had manufactured her tears.
Marcus did not move. He did not rush forward to comfort Isabella, nor did he yell. He stood entirely still, his massive frame radiating a cold, chilling aura that made the temperature in the room seem to drop ten degrees.
His dark eyes stared straight through Isabella’s tears, piercing past the performance into the very core of her soul. Marcus Thorne did not reach his position at the pinnacle of the global tech and financial markets by being easily fooled. People lied to him every single day—board members, politicians, rival CEOs. He had built multi-billion-dollar algorithms designed to detect anomalies, inconsistencies, and fabrications in massive data streams.
And Isabella’s story was full of static.
"Is that so, Isabella?" Marcus’s voice was dangerously low, smooth as polished obsidian, carrying a weight that made the hair on the back of Isabella’s neck stand up.
"Yes! Ask her! Look at her, she’s unstable!" Isabella pressed harder, sensing that her lie was hanging by a thread and needing to push the narrative past the breaking point before Marcus could look too closely at the physical evidence. "We need to call security, get her to a medical unit—she's a danger to herself and everyone around her!"
"Security," Marcus repeated the word slowly, a humorless, chilling smirk touching the corner of his lips. "Yes, Isabella. Security is already involved."
Isabella blinked, a flicker of genuine confusion disrupting her tearful act for a fraction of a second. "What do you mean?"
Before Marcus could answer, the sharp, rhythmic sound of heavy footsteps echoed down the private executive hallway outside. They weren't the hurried, disorganized steps of regular hospital orderlies or the hesitant tread of gala staff. These were the boots of men accustomed to command, moving with absolute purpose and unstoppable momentum.
The double doors of the suite didn't just open; they were pushed wide with an authority that signaled power far beyond anything a local hospital or a high-society charity event could muster.
The man who stepped through the doorway was not a hospital employee.
He was Thomas Vance—Khloe’s uncle, and a man whose name was whispered with caution in the highest corridors of international intelligence, government oversight, and corporate law. Clad in a dark, tailored charcoal suit, his silver-streaked hair brushed back, his piercing grey eyes swept across the room in a single, comprehensive glance.
He didn't look at Isabella. He didn't look at Elaine.
His eyes locked instantly on the floor, where his niece lay curled in pain.
In a fraction of a second, Thomas Vance’s face darkened into an expression of cold, apocalyptic fury. The air in the room seemed to condense, pressing down on everyone present like a physical weight.
"Marcus," Thomas’s voice rumbled like distant thunder, deep and controlled, yet vibrating with lethal intent. "Tell me my niece didn't just get assaulted in a hospital suite under your watch."

Isabella froze. The name Thomas Vance struck her like a physical blow. She knew who Thomas Vance was—everyone in the upper echelons of society knew the Vance name. They were the invisible architects of power, a family whose wealth and legal reach extended far beyond simple corporate boards into the machinery of the state itself.
If Thomas Vance was here, and if he saw what she had done... her entire carefully constructed world of lies was about to collapse.
