Chapter 3 - THE TRASH BIN DISCOVERY

Vivian’s face drained of all color, the high-end cosmetic bronzer on her cheeks standing out in harsh contrast against her suddenly chalk-white skin.
“You’ve said quite enough, you insolent little nobody,” Vivian hissed, her aristocratic mask completely shredding under the intense pressure of being publicly cornered by a member of the domestic staff.
Driven by blind panic and burning rage, Vivian lunged forward across the polished floor and reached out to grab Sofia aggressively by the arm to drag her away from the scene.
Sofia instinctively pulled her arm back, dodging the violent grab with the agility of someone who had spent her life navigating hostile environments.
Furious that a mere maid had successfully evaded her grasp, Vivian lost all remaining composure and forcefully shoved Sofia square in the chest with both hands.
Sofia stumbled backward from the unexpected impact, her shoulder striking the solid wooden wall with a dull thud, but she managed to catch her balance and stay firmly on her feet.
Marco heard the sharp sound of the impact echoing against the paneling, and his personal security chief Vance immediately stepped forward, his hand dropping decisively onto the grip of his weapon.
Marco held up a single, authoritative hand to halt Vance in his tracks, signaling that he would handle this grotesque breach of hospitality himself.
Instead of shouting or calling for guards, Marco walked toward Vivian himself, moving with a deliberate, measured slowness that was infinitely more terrifying than a sudden outburst of rage.
Every step he took was calculated, his posture radiating a cold, coiled lethalness that made the surrounding mafia capos take two steps backward out of sheer self-preservation.
“Did you just put your hands on my employee inside my own home?” Marco asked, his voice dangerously soft as he stopped inches away from his pale, trembling fiancée.
“She’s lying through her teeth, Marco!” Vivian stammered, her voice cracking as she desperately tried to claw back her authority. “She’s trying to sabotage our relationship before the wedding!”
Sofia rubbed her bruised left shoulder, wincing slightly from the impact against the wall, but her mind remained razor-sharp and focused on the ultimate objective of exposing the truth.
She reached down into the deep utility pocket of her black canvas housekeeping apron, her fingers wrapping around a smooth, lightweight object that she had kept hidden since her morning rounds.
Slowly and deliberately, Sofia withdrew her hand and held out a standard black silk sleep mask, the kind designed to block out every ray of morning light during post-surgical recovery.
Marco’s breath caught in his throat the second he laid eyes on the fabric, instantly recognizing the custom-tailored silk mask that he wore every single night to prevent agonizing post-operative migraines.
One of the lower corners of the mask had been carefully slit open with a razor blade, creating a tiny, discreet pocket in the soft fabric that was completely invisible to anyone glancing at it casually.
Inside that hidden fabric lining, something small, dark, and distinctly metallic glinted under the warm glow of the wall sconces.
Marco held out his large, calloused palm without breaking eye contact with Vivian, whose chest was now heaving with rapid, shallow breaths as she stared at the sleep mask in sheer horror.
Sofia stepped forward and gently placed the modified silk mask directly into Marco’s outstretched hand, her fingers brushing against his calloused skin for a fraction of a second.
With steady fingers, Marco pinched the slit in the fabric and extracted a miniature wireless camera device no larger than a shirt button, equipped with a high-definition pinhole lens and a micro-transponder.
The entire atmosphere in the grand ballroom shifted instantaneously, dropping several degrees as the realization of what this meant crashed over the assembled syndicate leaders like a tidal wave of ice water.
Vivian’s knees buckled slightly, and she had to reach out and grab the edge of a mahogany side table to keep from collapsing onto the marble floor.
Marco slowly peeled off his dark tinted glasses, revealing his healing left eye, which was still red and sensitive, but he forced it wide open to gaze upon the micro-camera with a terrifying glare.
“Where exactly did you find this?” Marco demanded, his voice dropping into a lethal whisper that commanded absolute silence across the entire lower level of the mansion.

“I found it tucked inside your private bedroom suite upstairs, Mr. Bellini,” Sofia answered, swallowing hard as she maintained unblinking eye contact with the terrifying mafia boss.
“I washed your linens and your personal sleep mask yesterday afternoon,” Sofia continued, her voice steady and clear. “When I folded the mask, it felt unusually heavy on one side, which prompted me to check the lining.”
