Chapter 10 - Justice Beyond The Grave

Secretary Hale stepped up to the desk, leaning forward until his face was inches from Senator Arthur Vance’s pale features.

"You forgot one critical detail in your grand empire, Arthur," Hale whispered with venomous calm.

"Soldiers don't swear their oaths to you."

"They swear their oaths to the Constitution and to one another."

Hale reached down to his coat pocket and withdrew a small digital recording transponder, tapping the screen once.

"Every word you just uttered regarding Liam Reeves, Daniel Reeves, and the Ardent Valley strike has been transmitted live to the Director of the FBI and the Department of Justice."

"Your executive immunity was officially revoked by a federal magistrate forty-five minutes ago."

The heavy study doors behind them opened once more.

Four federal agents wearing dark suits and carrying official arrest warrants entered the room with crisp, authoritative strides.

"Senator Arthur Vance, you are under arrest for high treason, conspiracy to commit murder, and violation of the Federal Arms Export Control Act," the lead agent announced.

Vance looked around the room frantically, realizing the walls of his empire had collapsed in an instant.

His wealth, his political connections, his Senate rank—none of it could shield him from the overwhelming weight of the truth.

The agents pulled Vance’s arms behind his back, securing steel cuffs around his wrists with loud, final clicks.

As they dragged the disgraced politician toward the doorway, Vance stopped directly across from Marcus.

"Marcus... please... call your father," Vance begged, his voice stripped of all former arrogance.

"Tell him they are destroying our family name!"

Marcus looked at his uncle with profound pity and absolute finality.

"The only family name worth saving died in the Ardent Valley," Marcus said quietly.

"Goodbye, Arthur."

Vance was escorted out into the cold rain, the flashing lights of federal cruisers illuminating his final departure into federal custody.

The study fell into a profound, sacred stillness.

Elena walked to the grand window, looking out into the mist where the morning light was beginning to break through the dark horizon.

The dawn was pale and clean, washing away the shadows of a three-year nightmare.

Atlas walked over and sat beside her, leaning his warm, muscular flank against her wounded leg.

Elena slowly reached down, running her fingers through his thick fur, feeling the steady, rhythmic beating of his loyal heart.

Evelyn Reeves entered the study, holding Daniel’s dog tags close to her chest.

She looked at Elena, then at Atlas, a tear slipping down her weathered cheek, not of sorrow, but of long-awaited peace.

"Daniel can rest now, Elena," Evelyn whispered softly.

"Liam can rest now."

"The truth made it home."

Elena turned to look at Evelyn, pulling the grieving mother into a deep, loving embrace.

"They will never be forgotten, Evelyn," Elena said, her voice filled with quiet strength.

"Their honor is restored."

"Their story will be told."

Secretary Hale walked over, resting a gentle hand on Elena’s shoulder.

"Major Brooks, your medical retirement will be processed with full honors and a complete pension."

"You gave everything you had to this country."

"And Atlas..." Hale paused, looking down at the magnificent Malinois.

"Atlas is officially retired from active military service as of this moment."

"His adoption paperwork has already been signed by the Secretary of Defense."

"He belongs to you, Major."

Elena looked down at Atlas, whose tail thumped softly against the wooden floorboards.

The canine looked up into her eyes, his golden gaze clear, intelligent, and filled with unconditional loyalty.
