Chapter 10 - THE WHISPERS OF A NEW MORNING

The morning sun broke over the Pacific Northwest with a crystalline brilliance, washing the rolling green lawns and manicured gardens of the Cole estate in a warm, golden hue.

Inside the master suite, the heavy silk curtains filtered the bright daylight into a soft, amber glow that danced across the plush Persian rug.

Grace stirred gently beneath the crisp white duvet, a quiet sigh of absolute contentment escaping her lips as she felt the solid, reassuring weight of Nathan’s arm wrapped securely around her waist.

She turned her head slightly on the plush pillows to study his sleeping face.

Without the sharp, defensive armor of the billionaire CEO, his features looked peaceful, softened by the deep, restorative sleep of a man who had finally found the missing half of his soul.

Just three months ago, waking up in this house had meant dodging insults, fearing for her safety as a lowly domestic worker, and guarding her daughter from the predatory eyes of a ruthless upper-class elite.

Now, she was a co-owner of this sprawling estate, a legal wife, and the cherished matriarch of a family that had survived the deepest fires of deception and emerged unbreakable.

A soft, rhythmic patter of tiny footsteps outside the mahogany bedroom door broke the morning silence.

The brass handle jiggled gently, and a second later, the door swung open with a quiet creak.

Little Lily stood on the threshold wearing her favorite pink unicorn pajamas, her dark curls sleepily tousled around her face, clutching a well-worn stuffed rabbit in her right hand.

She stood there blinking sleepily for a moment before padding across the thick carpet toward the massive king-sized bed.

Without a word of warning, the four-year-old launched herself upward with an athletic little hop, landing squarely in the middle of the mattress between Nathan and Grace.

“Mommy! Daddy! Wake up!” Lily announced brightly, instantly burying her face in Grace’s neck with a fit of giggles.

Nathan blinked open his eyes, the residual fog of sleep vanishing in a heartbeat as a massive, radiant smile spread across his face.

He immediately reached out, scooping Lily up into his arms and blowing raspberries against her tummy until the little girl shrieked with pure, unadulterated delight.

“Good morning, my little princess!” Nathan laughed, tossing her gently toward the pillows as Lily giggled uncontrollably.

“Did you sleep well?”

“I had a dream about ice cream castles!” Lily declared proudly, sitting up and adjusting her unicorn pajamas.

“And Mommy and Daddy were the king and queen of the castle!”

Grace sat up, pulling the duvet over her shoulders while smiling warmly at her daughter.

“Well, your highness,” Grace teased gently, brushing a stray curl from Lily’s forehead.

“The king and queen are officially awake, and the royal kitchen is reporting that pancakes and fresh strawberries are currently on the morning agenda.”

“Yay! Pancakes!” Lily cheered, scrambling out of bed and racing toward the door with her stuffed rabbit dragging behind her on the floor.

“Wait for us, you little speed demon!” Nathan chuckled, throwing off the bedcovers and standing up.

He turned to Grace, leaning down to press a lingering, tender good-morning kiss to her lips before whispering, “I love you, Grace. Every day with you and Lily is a gift I never knew I deserved.”

“I love you too, Nathan,” Grace whispered back, her heart swelling with a love so deep and profound it felt almost limitless.

“Now come on—before the princess decides to raid the pantry all by herself.”
