Chapter 10 - The New Normal

Life at the executive summit of Horizonte Capital returned to its high-speed, multi-billion-peso rhythm, untouched by the wreckage left in the wake of my legal counter-offensive.
For me, the Ortega chapter was already closed—a painful yet clarifying lesson in human nature, corporate vigilance, and the absolute necessity of never hiding one’s true power to appease insecure men.
Sitting behind my expansive glass desk on the 45th floor, I reviewed the final asset consolidation reports submitted by Jonathan Vance.
“The Ortega & Sons commercial yards have been successfully integrated into our logistics portfolio, Madam Chair,” Jonathan reported, standing by my desk with a tablet in hand. “Their primary competitors have already submitted competitive buyout offers for the warehouse leases.”
“Accept the highest bid,” I instructed calmly, signing my signature digitally across the authorization pad. “Liquidate the remaining inventory, clear the debts, and reallocate the proceeds into our tech venture capital fund.”
“Done,” Jonathan said, tapping his screen. “Also, regarding your personal security detail and public schedule for the upcoming international investment summit in London next month—everything is locked in.”
“Good. Make sure the private jet is fueled and prepped for departure by Friday evening.”
“Will do, Madam Chair.”
As Jonathan turned to exit the office, I paused, looking out over the panoramic view of the financial district stretching out beneath the towering glass windows.
The bruise on my cheek had long since healed, leaving no physical trace of Mauricio’s cowardly blow.
What remained was an absolute, unshakeable sense of self-respect and empowerment.
For two years, I had compromised my brilliance, toned down my authority, and played the quiet, humble orphaned girl because I was terrified that true power would frighten away anyone who claimed to love me.
That fear was gone forever.
Any man who approached me in the future would know exactly who I was from day one: the chair of Horizonte Capital, a multi-billion-peso investor, a corporate predator, and a woman who refused to tolerate disrespect, servitude, or violence under any roof.
My phone buzzed on the desk—a quiet, personal notification.
I glanced down at the screen. It was an automated news alert from a local tabloid regarding the fallout of the Ortega family scandal.
The headline read: FORMER LUXURY REAL ESTATE EMPIRE REDUCED TO RUINS: ORTEGA FAMILY FACES BANKRUPTCY, EVICTION, AND FEDERAL FRAUD CHARGES.
I swiped the notification away without opening the article.
Their downfall wasn’t my triumph—it was simply the natural consequence of their own arrogant cruelty.
They had handed me a bucket of dirty laundry and demanded I act like their servant.
I had handed them back a multi-million-peso reality check and watched their entire world wash down the drain.
I closed the laptop, stood up from my executive chair, and smoothed the fabric of my tailored designer suit.

It was time to board the private jet and conquer a new continent.
The world belonged to those who built empires, not those who demanded maids.
