Chapter 10 - THE AFTERMATH AND THE HORIZON: A NEW DYNASTY RISES

By late afternoon, the executive suite was quiet once again.
The conference room had emptied out, leaving behind twelve signed compliance pledges and a newly restructured corporate hierarchy that answered directly to Vance & Sterling—and by extension, to me.
I stood by the floor-to-ceiling windows of the corner office, holding a fresh cup of coffee, looking out over the bustling Manhattan streets below as the autumn dusk began to paint the sky in brilliant shades of violet and deep amber.
My phone buzzed softly on the mahogany desk.
I walked over, picked it up, and saw an encrypted text message from Ethan.

He set them down on the coffee table by the leather sofa, poured two fingers into each glass, and handed one to me.
“To new management,” David smiled, raising his glass.
I clinked my glass against his with a crisp, clear ring that echoed softly through the empty office.
“To compliance,” I replied, taking a slow, satisfying sip of the warm, amber spirit.
For eleven years, I had played the silent, submissive housewife in a game rigged by a man who thought power came from the volume of his voice and the cruelty of his actions.
He had thought a public slap would put me in my place.
Instead, it had opened the door to the courtroom, the boardroom, and an empire he never knew existed.
I looked down at the slight, fading bruise on my lower lip, tracing it with my thumb one last time before letting my hand drop to my side.

The game wasn't just over.
I had rewritten the rules entirely.
