Chapter 6 - A Desperate Hitman Strikes Inside the Guarded Mansion

Night fell over the Viscari estate.
The grand hallways were mostly empty, save for the occasional patrol of Alessandro’s most loyal guards.
In the medical wing, Clara held Sophie close in the dark.
She couldn't sleep.
Every shadow looked like a man in a black suit.
Outside the door, a heavy thud broke the silence.
Clara’s breath hitched.
She strained her ears.
A low groan was followed by the sound of a body dragging against the floor.
Someone had just taken out the guard posted outside her room.
Panic clawed at her throat.
She quietly slipped out of bed, grabbing the heavy metal lamp from the nightstand.
"Sophie," she whispered, shaking the sleeping child. "Wake up, baby. Hide under the bed. Now."
Sophie whined softly but did as she was told, scrambling under the heavy oak frame.
The doorknob slowly turned.
It was locked.
There was a pause.
Then, a soft electronic beep echoed as a master keycard was swiped.
The lock clicked open.
Clara raised the lamp, her hands shaking violently.
A tall figure slipped into the room, a silenced pistol raised.
The assassin moved silently toward the bed, raising the weapon.
He pulled back the covers, finding them empty.
Before he could turn, Clara swung the lamp with all her might.
It crashed against his shoulder.
He grunted, stumbling back, but he didn't fall.
He backhanded Clara across the face, sending her crashing into the wall.
"Stupid bitch," the assassin hissed, pointing the gun at her chest.
"Nothing personal."
"Drop it."
The voice came from the shadows near the bathroom door.
The assassin spun around.
Alessandro stepped into the moonlight filtering through the window.
He was holding a customized Beretta, aimed directly at the assassin’s head.
The hitman froze.
He hadn't expected the boss to be waiting in the dark.
"You think I'd leave them unprotected?" Alessandro said, his voice dripping with lethal calm.
"I knew Damien would send someone. I just didn't expect it to be you, Marcus."
Marcus, one of the estate’s trusted perimeter guards, lowered his gun slowly.
"Boss... he paid me. He said she was a spy."
"He lied. And you are a fool."
Alessandro didn't hesitate.
He fired a single shot into Marcus’s kneecap.
The silencer muffled the gunshot, but Marcus’s scream of agony was loud enough to wake the dead.
He collapsed, dropping his weapon.
Alessandro kicked the gun away and grabbed Marcus by the throat, slamming him against the floor.
"You have five seconds to tell me exactly what Damien’s plan is, or the next bullet goes through your eye."
Marcus gasped, clutching his shattered knee.
"He’s leaving! Tonight! He sold the Harbor Point routes to the Morettis! He just needed you distracted here!"
Alessandro threw Marcus back onto the floor.
He turned to Clara, who was shaking violently, clutching her bruised cheek.
"Are you alright?" he asked, his harsh demeanor instantly softening.
Clara nodded slowly.
Sophie peeked out from under the bed, crying softly.
Alessandro holstered his gun and knelt down, pulling Sophie out and handing her to Clara.
"I’m sorry you had to see that," he said softly.

He stood up, his eyes turning cold again as he looked at the bleeding hitman on the floor.
"Stay here. I have an underboss to execute."
