Chapter 7 - The New Chapter

The momentum from the viral graduation speech didn't just bring emotional closure; it brought tangible opportunities that completely altered the trajectory of our lives. Among the thousands of emails and messages was one from the dean of admissions at a prestigious design institute in New York. They had seen the video, but more importantly, they had seen the dress. The head of the fashion department had noted the complex draping, the impeccable stitching, and the sheer talent it took for a self-taught teenager to recreate a vintage gown so perfectly. They offered Liam a full-ride scholarship for their upcoming fall semester.
It was a dream come true, beyond anything we had ever dared to hope for. But the surprises didn't end there. A major publishing house had reached out to me, wanting to help me write a memoir about our journey, single motherhood, and the strength of the familial bond. The advance they offered was enough to secure a comfortable life for us, allowing me to quit the grueling diner jobs and finally breathe.
The summer was a whirlwind of packing, planning, and preparing for the massive transition. We moved out of the tiny, drafty apartment we had called home for so long, boxing up the memories of struggle and survival. My parents helped us pack, their presence a quiet, tentative addition to our lives, but a welcome one. Liam spent his days sketching new designs, his creativity blossoming now that the weight of our financial survival wasn't entirely on his shoulders. I spent my days drafting chapters of my book, finding healing in putting my pain and triumphs onto paper. The boy who had worn a red dress to graduation had inadvertently tailored a brand new life for both of us.
