Chapter 11 - The Ashes of the Past and the New Reign of Corsini House

The sun had fully risen by the time we returned to Corsini House, the golden autumn light washing over the pristine lawns and the grand facade of the mansion as if nothing had ever happened.
Victor Cruz was locked securely in the basement holding cells, awaiting a very long, very quiet conversation with Julian about twenty-three years of stolen federal funds and Syndicate betrayals.
The charred leather ledger sat securely on the mahogany table in the library, its dark secrets finally laid bare, neutralized, and stripped of all their power.
I stood by the tall arched windows of the third-floor security suite, holding a mug of hot coffee, looking out over the sprawling estate.
Soft footsteps approached behind me.
A pair of strong, familiar arms wrapped around my waist, pulling me back against a warm, solid chest.
“You’ve been staring out that window for twenty minutes,” Julian’s deep voice murmured against my hair.
“Just admiring the view,” I smiled, leaning back against him.
“And calculating your new salary?” he teased, his lips brushing against my temple.
“Actually, I was calculating hazard pay,” I retorted, turning in his embrace to look up into his dark, amused eyes.
“Being a human shield for a mafia boss definitely requires a substantial bonus.”
Julian let out a low, rich chuckle, his hands sliding down to clasp mine.
“Name your price, Sadie. As of this morning, all the shell companies Cruz used to bleed the syndicate have been seized and transferred to a newly established blind trust.”
He paused, his dark gaze softening into something fierce and undeniable.
“Registered under your name.”
I blinked in sheer astonishment.
“My name? Julian, I’m your housekeeper!”
“You were my housekeeper,” he corrected smoothly, leaning down until his lips hovered inches from mine.
“Now, you’re my equal partner. And if you ever try to clean another room in this house, I’ll have Martin lock you in the master suite.”
“Is that a threat?” I whispered, a slow smile spreading across my face.
“It’s a promise,” he murmured, just before his lips met mine in a kiss that sealed our past, our present, and our dangerous, unbreakable future.

Downstairs, the grand mansion remained quiet and still, hiding its bloody history behind ivy-covered brick and polished iron gates.
But inside those walls, the ghosts were finally laid to rest.
